Shit, I didn’t even know the Oscars were on until the slap happened. Now it’s front page news when fucking Ukraine is being invaded and we’re still in a pandemic.

“The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show,” the organization that oversees the Oscars said in a statement on Monday. “We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.“
The Academy’s standards of conduct state that the organization can take disciplinary actions including “revoking Academy awards or honors.” The Academy can take less drastic measures, too, including private or public reprimand, and temporary or permanent loss of eligibility for future Oscars.
The more I think about the will smith thing.
The most interesting question is what kind of world view allows you to walk up on stage at the Oscar’s uninvited and make it about you. This is a guy who’s clearly been too much at the centre of his entire universe for too long.

I think he’s talking about how we’ve elevated them to the upper levels of society. Until quite recently they were considered very low professions.
