No Remorse is by a mile the third-best track on the album though. After those top three and personally Hit The Lights as well, I can do without the rest of the album. I’ll take Escape and Fight Fire With Fire over dreck like Metal Militia.
RTL has better singing, better production, better and more complex songs. It started to reveal Metallica as better than other thrash bands of the era. I don’t love Call of Ktulu or anything but I’ll happily take it over the rest of KEA after the 4 songs I listed. There’s more to it.
I think the arguments over those albums reveal that while Metallica’s catalog is deep, they also don’t have that many albums that are solid start to finish. That’s what makes MOP so amazing. I don’t like Leper Messiah much but as far as I’m concerned every other song on the album is a classic. The Black album was also consistent if you like the style of it, not too many stinkers on that (looking at you though, Holier Than Thou).
This is about a 20 min vid of this guy who is into music and music production pulling a song apart and talking about how the song is constructed and produced. In this case he’s doing Master of Puppets. He’s a charismatic, enthusiastic kind of guy, it’s a fun watch imo. He’s also done Enter Sandman.
I often think that bands/music artists hang on too long, and in doing so ruin their legacy. Metallica should have been done when Jason Newsted left. In the late 90s there was a moment that they were essentially the biggest thing in music, which is absurd for a metal band. They had a 4 year run with Load, Reload, Garage Inc and S&M that should have been a cap to their careers.
Think how they’d be remembered if they walked away in 2001. Instead we’ve watched 20 years of aging/fading rock stars.
meh i think their legacy is intact, edit: it should be considered a plus that they continue to make music. Like the rolling stones, although i dunno how hot of a take that is.
I fixed the bracket, let me know if you see an issue but i believe we are good. I hope…I flip flopped the bottom left quadrant but it doesn’t change anything t so i didnt fix it.
Some interesting matchups i think with different style songs and “classic metallica”/later metallica.
All these songs rock though, Metallica is just too good.
Oh man, Unforgiven vs Four Horsemen. Gonna have to think about that one. Hard to compare tracks which are at either end of the Metallica catalog stylistically.
Yeah that was a close one for me. I ended up going with Unforgiven because while Four Horseman is great to listen to, Unforgiven has more “moments” for me.
