Burning in my brain. On I burn!
More interesting track. Light and shade. Much better lyrics. Ride the Lightning is an OK track but it’s very straightforward thrash. I guess you could say that For Whom The Bell Tolls sounds more like their later mature stuff and Ride the Lightning sounds like it could have been on KEA.
Heh, I wrote that and then it jogged some vague memory and I went and checked and yeah. RTL is the last Metallica song for which Dave Mustaine received a writing credit. It’s got that very straightfoward KEA/Megadeth thrash vibe to it.

there’s no template for either, though. and had the inspiration struck them differently, they could’ve improved upon RTL. But, For Whom the Bell Tolls got the lion’s share of inspiration.
interesting, though. light and shade/transient moods versus a more monochromatic feeling

KEA is pretty simple. No surprise since it was their first album. Definitely the worst of their albums pre-Load imo.
Group 2 seems destined to have the worst member of the Final 4

One and Fade To Black are easy choices. Other two matchups are pretty tough. Welcome Home is obviously great, but I’ve got Eye of the Beholder as a little better (and certainly doesn’t deserve to get wafflecrushed).
Wonder if anyone will join me on Don’t Tread On Me. I have Fade to Black as the single most overrated Metallica song.

I like Eye of the Beholder but Sanitarium (don’t think I’ve ever heard it referred to as Welcome Home before) is miles better. Same thing for Orion, neither of those are contests.
