Metallica Tournament

Until it Sleeps isn’t even the best song on Load. I’d take King Nothing over it.

On Load I go:

Hero of the Day>Until It Sleeps>King Nothing

Imagine you were 10 when you became a Metallica fanboy during the early Black Album era. Imagine that you got the Black Album first, loved most of it, and then in the next few months you found out that there were earlier albums that were even better, and you had your face melted by Blackened and Battery and so on. Then imagine getting your hopes up and waiting and waiting and waiting for the next Metallica album to come out from 91 to 96, only to hear that the first song was some Black Hole Sun wannabe emo dreck.

Where do I take this pain of mine, indeed

You almost literally described how I got into Metallica lol. My cousin introduced me to them when I was either 9 or 10 years old. About a year later, they released Load and I was pretty deflated.

Pretty sad that Harvester of Sorrow is going to lose to Nothing Else Matters. I get it, the latter is a good song, but Harvester of Sorrow is so good.

I voted Until It Sleeps over Leper Messiah because Leper Messiah is the only song on MOP I don’t like, but I’m not mad Leper Messiah is going to get up.

Other two are super obv, lol voting Fuel over any track off RTL.

It’s the best imo because it doesn’t try to be any more than what it is.

Doesn’t try to be anything other than a shitty song.

King Nothing is a shitty pop song masquerading as… hard rock? metal? idk.

Says a lot that it’s better than Until It Sleeps

King Nothing is worse than Until it sleeps, full stop.

I always thought King Nothing was super poppy, just the title even is bad bad bad.

Group 3 Round of 32 coming here in a bit, the GOAT group imo.

Fuel is Pumping Engines of Creation!!

man i love both but Ride the lightning is too good to not vote for it. Goes Ham around 3mins ish and keeps going.

Master of puppets easiest pick over Justice.

I love wherever i may roam, sue me.

Will have to consider the last matchup.

edit: Drums too goddamn good on wherever i may roam
edit2: and hetfield too, gtfo creeping death

Yeah voting in this tournament is real interesting to me because I have sentimental value attached to all kinds of different tracks.

I first listened to Metallica…at least by choice, when my brother and I were checking out my uncles cd collection and put on Black. Wherever I May Roam was probably the song that most got my attention on those first few listens, and acted as a big part of my gateway to the rest of Metallica.

My best friends and I were big Metallica fans in the years that followed. They both went on to spend a lot of years in a band together, which I was in for probably about 3 months as a bassist before giving up. The first time they ever tried to play a song together was with me there, and it was For Whom The Bell Tolls. Ill probably always remember that.

Just stuff like that is enough to nudge my vote in one direction or another. Appreciate you doing this wirelessgrinder!

Now this is a quality group

Shit, the final matchup is superuberdifficult. The Unforgiven parts seem like real love it/hate it songs. Gotta admit that I love them. But Battery is such a good song.

All really easy decisions except the last one.
