Oh, well. I knew I was taking a risk picking a song that makes very liberal use of the n-word but I thought at least musically this might be up your alley.
I am back to a chorus of emptiness. I should have expected as much on a Friday night, anyway, on with the commencement
xpost, sorry Louis. You are not a chorus of emptiness
I donāt know what the consensus is on James Brown but these two songs didnāt do it for me either. As you said they are a bit repetitive.
Maybe I make that my undertitle.
In 9th place, Scoring 7 - JohnnyTruant - Stranded in a Limosine by Paul Simon
Had only really heard this one in passing before, and its great. I really like this song. Very move worthy, Simon is always great. From this point, Iām gonna have a lot of praise for all the songs. Nothing really I would change here, I like this song, the ones coming up are just a bit better.
I mean the reason heās not your cup of tea is not a weird take. Heās a precursor to repetitive dance music, which was the whole point.
Way back in the day, I had a convo with a BFFās dad about house music. My BFF was a house dj and his dad was like, āSome of it I enjoy but some of it is just too repetitive.ā We started to OK Boomer him but then he said, āNah, itās the same with all my fave genres from my era, funk and soul and what not. Some of it is super repetitive, thatās the point, and I get why people dig it but itās not everybodyās thing. Like James Brown.ā
Iām here, Iām just quietly confident this was my best submission, and Iām also trying to explain to RiskyFlush that both Star Trek 2009 and The Force Awakens were JJ Abrams abominations
Im not a big fan of Force Awakens and really enjoyed Last Jedi.
I know Iām an outlier in that sense.
Iāll have to disagree on Star Trek.
Hmmmm, interesting.
Hey who wants to get Funky?
pump up the jamz
Thereās a case for the Last Jedi in that it actually tried to do something new creatively, although I wouldnāt go crazy in saying I enjoyed it. But TFA got a lot of praise when it was basically ~Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls level bad.
In 8th place, scoring 8 - Pyatnitski - Give More Bread to the People by The Action 13
Now this is the kind of funk I really dig. Fuckin feel that baseline at the beginning. The singing is slightly weak, but tack on a great message and this is a hell of a song.
wait

i sense a disturbance in the force
Ok enough funk, back to the punk
In 7th place, scoring 9 - Skydiver8 - Sheena is a Punk Rocker by The Ramones
Of the two Ramones submissions, this one clicked with me more and was the one I was more happy to hear when it came up in the shuffle. I think the chorus really makes this song.
Time to place your bets, with 6 remaining, who will be number one. Punk, Rock, Funk, or Soul?
Good olā rock, nothing beats that!
