Yeah I donât like the Red Cross and wonât donate to them if I can avoid it. I lived in NYC when Hurricane Sandy hit and drove out to a poor and middle class neighborhood (Rockaway Beach) that was hit hard with canned goods, water, blankets, etc.
Talking to some of the people there, many of whom didnât have charged cell phones, they were asking where to find this or that. I told them the Red Cross was set up nearby, and they said no that wasnât true - they had checked.
I drove to the location in question to see what was up, no Red Cross, just one person pointing people to a second location. I drove there, no Red Cross. Just a cop pointing people to another location. I drove there, no Red Cross, no nothing. Keep in mind I had a functioning car because I lived farther inland. Most of them did not have one due to flooding and were being sent all around the area on foot.
Meanwhile the Red Cross was publicly claiming to be there. Meanwhile they had no issues helping wealthy areas.
That caused me to do some additional research, and apparently thatâs not that unusual for them and there are other complaints too.
