Major League Baseball (Part 1)

well, it does make baseball watchable

the stick your forearm pad out and get intentionally hit should be an automatic out though

i’m telling you we need a “hit by pitch” zone!

As a former pitcher who hit quite a few batters i agree, fuck those guys

Doyers cut ties with Bauer. Assuming they can’t put together a trade for him, somebody can pick him up for the minimum. Will anyone?

In my face. Totally thought they’d memory hole it and embrace the spin rate.

Pretty sure the answer to both is yes. Worse people have gotten second chances.

Holy shit

Should be interesting to see what the vesting terms will be on those option years.

gotta be the first person to sign with 3 different teams in one offseason

also lol at coming back

Ankle gonna put him on IR. He’s going to average 60 games per year. Stupid twins.

Correa negotiations stuff got me considering downloading ootp 23 so I can agree to some 10 year all team options deal with some guy

But they got those 60 games for only 200m instead of 330m. We call that a bargain in my world!

I have to pretend that franchise doesn’t exist or I’ll waste 100 hours of my life on simulations

I ran an online OOTP league for years, I had to retire from it for my own well being.

I rarely get to far in saves. Im in year three of an Indianapolis expansion team. Some how won the division in year two with a decent pitching and really bad hitting

Was +13 in expected wins. Year 3 back to 20-40 land

Going to try to hit 20 years with these guys and then maybe move to a team if they still haven’t titled.

My whole start to internet forums was when I bought Season Ticket Baseball on CD-rom from Office Depot in 2002. That was OOTP4.5, same game, interchangeable. It was the name picked by the distributor the only time OOTP had physical media distribution.

Anyway, I would go on to spend like 10+ years of being in multiple online leagues at a time. Leagues based on current rosters to start with, or historical rosters, or fictional rosters with fictional leagues. Not however they do the newer way, Ultimate Team or whatever where you collect cards or whatever the fuck microtransactions or whatever. This was just one person controlling each franchise, importing and exporting league files. Negotiating trades on AIM or MSN.

Directly from there I hopped to a Radiohead forum at a fellow OOTP nerd’s recommendation. The people I met there led me to the people who taught me poker and showed me 2p2.

And that’s all she wrote.

I think OOTP 4 is where we started the league - from a video game message board. I ran it for 3.5-4 years, I believe around 20 seasons. It was a fictional league - both players and teams. We started with 16 teams and a draft. We expanded twice and had 24 teams, 6 divisions of 4. I just got burned out, handed it off to someone else and they ran it for a while longer. One of my favorite internet experiences. I’m sure online leagues are better, now - even just with screen sharing technologies. Back then, for the big games (World Series or playoff game 7s), I’d have it up on one screen and sim it, and type into a chat box what was happening.

Even back then there was a tool you could use to generate a baseball reference-like site for the league, which I hosted somewhere, and spent way too much time looking at stats. I’m sure I have a hard drive around here somewhere with that data, maybe I should find it and look at some of my studs. Robert Ritz GOAT.

I won the league 3 times, but all early on (I think in the first 4 or 5 seasons), because in that initial draft we definitely had some guys that either didn’t understand the value of walks (not every one was a huge baseball fan) or drafted old guys - I remember one guy took a 38 year old pitcher in the first round. My best year, I had a loaded team, won like 115 games and then lost in the first round of the playoffs to a team that won their division at under .500. Once everyone caught on it was a really even league.

This talk makes me want to join another but I know I’d abandon my family. I’m weak.
