Major League Baseball (Part 1)

Lol Sox. This is incredible, all these plays happened just in July.

I watch them frequently and it’s like every player is lethargic. In the field and at bat they all look tuned out.

even the pirates are like , what the hell is this shit

And Trammel>>Bell for ‘87 MVP.

And speaking of 87, the fucking AL Weak couldn’t earn home field for years so MLB decided to take turns. So my 98 win Tigers had to beat the Blue Jays heads up to win the East on the weekend and then had to start the ALCS in the abomination of the humphrey dome with the garbage bag wall, home of the team 85 win Twinkies.

But Bell led the league in RBIs, so not sure what you’re complaining about. Who cares about things like OBP and defense.

MVP voting used to be so easy - just sort by RBIs and pick highest guy from a good team (exception to the rule being Andre Dawson).

Please do not mention 1987 again.

And toss in a sub 5 WAR closer every once in a while if they get a, like, really low ERA and lots of SAVES! Saves are CLUTCH!

This isn’t quite true. MLB originally rotated home field advantage in both the World Series and playoffs. The NFL used to too. This was to have some predictability on which teams could be home on which dates. This was a particular issue for MLB, as their playoffs coincided with the NFL regular season, and most teams shared stadiums back then.

This season, MLB is going with a fixed bracket in the playoffs, instead of re-seeding after the first round as previously. In each league, it’s going to be: #5 @ #4, with the winner playing @ #1.-and- #6 @ #3, with the winner playing @ #2.

Ahhh, the year 2000 method

fade patrick corbin day off to another good start

Sabo the dog’s Padres just dropped 2 out of 3 in Detroit. The one they won has an asterisk… it was one of those gimmicky extra inning games. Still, that win was historic in a way…

It was the first game Sabo’s Padres had ever won in Detroit. Previously, they were 0-6 in the motor city: 0-3 at Tiger Stadium in the 1984 World Series, and 0-3 at Comerica Park in 2005. Every current MLB team has beaten every other team, and have done so at home. With Sabo’s Padres win in Detroit yesterday,

  • Only three MLB teams have never beaten another MLB team on the road. Trivia time: which teams ?

Are these all current teams?

Yes, all current vs current. Also I missed one, there are three such pairs. Easy hints: interleague matchups, and does not involve the Brewers or Astros.

Just guessing - assume it’s got to be two teams not in same division since they played each other too much before they balanced interleague and never met in WS. Going to guess:

Pirates never beat Red Sox.

Orioles never beat Dodgers.

The only salient point.

This is correct.

These are incorrect however.

The Pirates were 2-1 @ Huntington Avenue Grounds, Boston in the 1903 World Series; and 1-5 @ Fenway in 2005 and 2017.

The Orioles are 4-4 @ Dodger Stadium (2-0 in 1966 World Series; 0-3 in 2004; 2-1 in 2016).

ETA: fixed mistake re: Orioles.
