It was Taiwan, not MLB, but I just watched live what has to be among the worst performances in a three game series in professional baseball in a long time.
Game one Friday evening: Lions 13, Dragons 0
A no-hitter by Tim Melville (briefly played for the Rockies a few years back). Not to take anything away from him but the Dragons couldn’t get a hit even with him throwing 142 pitches.
Game two Saturday evening: Lions 9, Dragons 2
Dragons got their first hit of the series in the 5th inning.
Game three Sunday afternoon (today): Lions 14, Dragons 2
The Lions entered this series 4-7 having scored 38 runs and having conceded 69. Dragons were 5-7 coming into the series.
I can’t understand why anyone would pitch for the rockies if they have any other opportunity in the league. It’s not like anyone is even grading them differently. There was only one cy young finalist from colorado and zero winners (both are league lows ofc).
20 year ago they tried to go against the grain on this and offered big $s to the two biggest FA pitchers at the time (Mike Hampton and Denny Neagle). Didn’t work - all of their starters finished with ERAs over 5.00 and they won 73 games. Worth a try I guess.
I dont think the pitchers have too much regret, Hampton got $120 million and Neagle got $50 million. Hampton’s deal was the biggest contract in history up to that point.
I vaguely remember some narratives around Hampton and his groundball tendencies. Not sure what they were thinking with Neagle, I remember him as a fly ball guy
LOL Cardinals. Please keep firing Castellanos up, it’s obviously good for the Reds team as a whole. The first two innings of opening day were bad, then it was 25 innings of ownage. I love it. I hope they keep this up.
