From experience. The overlap between “shy and slightly awkward Chinese person” and “drinks wine at home on their own” is pretty small.
They could be grooming a hundred persons concurrently. Sending messages and photos doesn’t seem like a lot of effort.
I am not saying that I am convinced it’s a scam.
If she’s giving him good advice and he is enjoying the conversation, just go with it imo.

I think it needs another level.
Girl takes over boys account to try and set him up (boy is a pining widower). Scammer guy tries to scam boy, but it’s actually girl pretending to be boy. They fall in love over chat.
Meanwhile. In second plot line. Scammer and girl are in some kind of dispute. Maybe minor car accident? Or girl is a lawyer on the other side of a law suit for scamming? Either way. They hate each other obv.
Meanwhile. In reversal of expectation but staying somewhat true to the source material. Widower boy goes crazy taking drugs and having threesomes in a wholesome sex positive way that provides further comic relief for the main story. There’s also a cute kid involved who learns more about his dad taking acid and threesomes than he should, but it’s funny and cute.

Final scene.
Scammers evil boss forces scammer to scam boy (who is actually girl). Scammer has a change of heart and tries to save boy who is actually girl.
Girl meanwhile is in the middle of a sting operation to try and catch the scammer as part of her court case. Scammer agrees to help her somehow (in some way trying to save the boy, who he is love with even though he doesnt know its girl)
Chaotic big reveal. Folks from the threesome are involved somehow, and widower is on acid throughout final scene. Girl and scammer hook up and head off into the sunset.

Actually a legit decent plot for a movie.
I’ve been enjoying writing scenes for this in my head all morning.
My favourite right now. What’s start off as a joke turns into a sexy chat conversation. They are both super into it but find it hilarious/confusing because they are thinking they are texting the same sex.
Date was good. It wasn’t some mind-blowing experience. Personally, I like dates that don’t drag on for a whole day. No need to wear out one’s welcome. Also nice to leave someone wanting to know and learn more for both sides. The fact that I was able to disregard my phone entirely and lose track of time was a good sign.
Given that I asked her out about 30 minutes after we started chatting on Bumble, it makes sense to keep the first date short as it resembles what normally would be the online conversation.
We’ll see what happens with a second date if there is one. I’m pretty cynical about online dating but it’d be nice to have a positive story come of it to change that.

First dates are always uncomfortable because when you’re meeting someone new, it’s never entirely clear where they want you to subtly leave the money.

That sounds like a big win. One of my best friends met his GF on Tinder and they’ve been together for 2 years and shes pretty amazing so I guess its possible to hit gold.
lol last night they " shared " a picture of a graph of their stock investment in gold. So cringe. I haven’t responded because it was so dumb but I feel plot committed to take this to the end.
