LOL politics in the rest of the world outside the US, Canada, Europe and China

Can I write her in for POTUS?

Maybe now is a good time to return California to Mexico.

I heard that some people say that other people have concerns about her

Many people are talking about this.

Such insight, much global, wow

Vox article has some concerns about her will and ability to enact positive environmental policies, both from her track record as mayor of Mexico City and because AMLO locked in major policy as law earlier this year (I have no opinion on this, simply summarizing for convenience). Her background is obviously better than one could hope for.

Vox is concerned that electing an environmental scientist was bad for the environment. Fox is concerned about electing a Jew Foreigner. Others are concerned that this “Jew” wore a rosary.

I bet Chevron and Koch have some concerns too.

One of my Jewish Facebook friends (I’m also Jewish, btw) has gone completely off the deep end on the Israel/Gaza thing, like ultra, mega pro-Israel to the point of posting things that basically call Palestinians animals, etc. It’s bad.

She made a post about how excited she was that a female Jew was elected president of Mexico. A few hours later, she reversed it, posting a screed from some Mexican rabbi about how the president-elect is pro-Palestine, “worse than Bernie Sanders,” “her parents are communists,” and “supposedly backed by the infamous Sinaloa cartel that has ties to Hezbollah.”

Every time a celebrity she likes says something in support of Palestinians, she posts something like, “well, there’s someone else I can’t like anymore.”

This seems like a bad faith reading, but I have little clue about Vox’ views and stances in general. It’s blindingly obvious that she will face a lot of hurdles in implementing environmentally friendly policies even if she wants to.

Having read the Vox piece now, they really weren’t that concerned about her. Of course enacting legislation is not a gimme. The thing in Mexico City was pushing for a bridge to be built before completion of an environmental report. The project itself had mixed support from environmentalists as it helps reduce air pollution while impacting the wetlands. More area for forests were protected as an offset. The bridge was an important infrastructure piece and balancing development and environmental impacts is what has to happen. Otherwise she had significant environmental programs as mayor of Mexico City including electrification of the buses and spearheading the largest commercial solar array in the world.

No offense meant to you or Vox. I was taking a little poetic license.

Vox wasn’t all that concerned though and do you think those concerns had anything to do with the concerns that were mentioned around her wearing a “big crucifix”?

Did she say Sheinbaum doesn’t count as a real Jew? On 2p2 I got called a “Jew” (with the quotes) by a Trumpy Jewish poster because I have expressed the opinion that too many Palestinians have been killed

If you ask me, Mexican anti-semitism is a lot more complex than American-style antisemitism, where we accuse the Jews of having space lasers and shriek about (((SOROS))) manipulating the weather.

Expressing doubts about a Jew’s Judaism because they are asking difficult and challenging questions is like MAGA freedom-lovers banning flag burning. Good lord it’s tilting.

Yeah, my reading of the Vox article was that they don’t think she is bad for the environment because she’s an environmentalist, they were just justifiably pointing out that part of her party’s policy has been to support the state owned petroleum company with more resources. It’s not a “good look” to position oneself as an environmentalist and on the other hand increase the production of your petroleum enterprise, but that’s just the messy reality of energy politics. Certainly her opponents will jump at the opportunity to portray her environmentalism as Fake News, undermining liberals / center-left politicians this way is on page 1 of the conservative playbook.

I think she’s said something to that effect in the past. I don’t want to torture myself by scrolling through her posts.

Sounds like we’ve also found someone that you can’t like anymore.

You need to unfriend ASAP.

I haven’t done it 1) because I’m curious about what else she’ll post, and 2) she and my wife are friends in real life from way back and while my wife doesn’t really consider her a “friend” anymore and neither of us have seen or talked to her in years, I don’t really want to cause any waves if she notices I unfriended her and then complains to someone my wife might really still be friends with.

She actually tagged us a few weeks ago asking us to support a local Jewish-owned shop, so she definitely has us on her mind sometimes.

Basically, I don’t care enough to risk any negative consequences, however small they might be. I’ll just scroll past her posts. We have a couple other friends who have been posting similar things, just maybe a notch down on the insane scale.

I mean, easy enough to block her from your news feed.

So uh, WTF is going on in France right now? Does the Nazi have a legit shot at becoming PM?
