When does the coup become official?

Hoping the coup doesn’t start while we’re celebrating the victory, at least.

CNN Brasil and other news organizations have tried to contact the Bolsonaro campaign, but it is not responding.

“It’s fraud without a doubt, they manipulated the count. The armed forces must intervene,” said João Reis, a 50-year-old electrician. And if they don’t? “The population must take to the streets to demand military intervention so that we don’t hand power over to the communists.”

this is a question that requires multiple definitions that are not easy to agree on.

Holy shit.

The election map of Brazil is really not at all what I expected.

What explains the huge regionalism with the Northeast going for Lula and SP/Rio going Bolsonaro? (To be fair, the latter are quite a bit closer, but still double digit MOV for Bols.)

A few key politicians who support Bolsonaro have quickly come out to say Lula won and it must be respected. Hopefully they can help prevent a coup.

I don’t know anything about Brazilian politics and am just throwing out a theory. It looks like Lula was born and lived in Pernambuco until age 7, which is solidly in that section.

again, tough to answer this before defining what good is. the parties are relatively the same. Israel’s elections are between Bibi and Never Bibi right now.

From left to right, with left in Israel meaning “does not hate arabs” all the way to soft-genocide.

There are 2.5 arab parties. A pseudo-communist one, a religious orthodox one and a pan-arab nationalist one. The last one is 0.5 because they are extremely unlikely to break the minimum votes required for parliament seats so they are basically wasting arab votes.

There are 2 “left-wing” jewish parties.
Merez is the wannabe bernie sanders but actually elizabeth warren party.
Labor are the “we used to own this country now we are fighting to reach the minimum votes how did this happen do you know who i am” party.

There are 2 “extreme centrist” parties.
Yesh Atid is the party of Yair Lapid who is the current Prime Minister. He’s a former talk show host and he has principles and if you don’t like them he has others.
The National Unity Party (it sounds slightly better in hebrew, less fascist connotations and more extreme centrist) has Benny Gantz who is a commander-in-chief of the IDF and a human radish. 2nd place is Gideon Saar who is the Mitt Romney-esque type that Bibi’s wife hates with a passion.

Then you got Liberman. He is your friendly neighborhood fascist. Former side kick of Bibi turned hateful enemy. He is what your friend who keep mentioning his IQ would vote if he was of russian descent.

That is the Never Bibi camp.

Then you got Likud which is what the GOP in the Trump era is. A party of extremely stupid people who have to pledge their undying allegiance to Bibi.

After that you got 2 ultra-orthodox Jewish parties.
Shas would do anything for money as long as you give it to them and you are Sephardic.
Agoda would do anything for money as long as you give it to them and you are Ashkenazi.

And then you got the creme-de-la-creme, the Bibi inspired alliance of all fascists. From your “did he just say that out loud” of Smotrich who argues to keep jewish and muslim pregnant women apart in hospitals to “didn’t he literally kill rabin? oh he was just the guy saying he would” Itamar Ben-Gvir. They are projected to be the 3rd to 4th largest party.

Bibi needs 61 from his side. Otherwise we will probably head to a 6th election.
