Manchin sort of has telegraphed a path for getting legislation passed. If we materially ramped up coal subsidies and made sure coal was a key part of the energy future, I bet he’d find a path to a $2 trillion infrastructure bill.

Yeah we’re fucked. When I made that post I was at least expecting a 3 trillion dollar infrastructure bill, now that is likely gone, yeah this administration is useless.
I switched back to thinking Bernie would have been way better even with most of congress being against him and the entire media. At least he would be out there messaging and energizing the base.
Maybe Bernie would have had the balls to appoint someone decent to the DOJ and let them loose on Manchins evil daughter
But yeah we’re basically fucked. We need an entire restructuring of congress before we can make any real progress, and that will be decades if ever.

I really hope progressives tell him to eat shit, and I hope Nancy backs them so they don’t have to take the entire blame themselves but I doubt that. Nancy won’t be able to resist throwing her real enemies under the bus
We need real anti-corruption legislation and enforcement (which will never happen). The House and Senate ethics committees are intentionally useless. These assholes aren’t even trying to hide it because they know there is zero chance of punishment. Members of Congress being allowed to trade individual stocks is completely insane.
Incidentally, this is why we will never get Trump for corruption, just like taxes. The “good guys” are balls deep in the same shit.

In the episode of “Bachelor in Paradise” last night, it became clear one of the competitors used dishonesty and manipulation to both get on the show and convince someone to keep him on the show. After this information became clear, several of the other competitors confronted him and basically made it clear that he should leave, otherwise the rest of his time on the show would be incredibly unpleasant. So he left.
Joe manchin has done several terrible and unacceptable things during his time in politics, including protecting a company that is price gouging with life saving medicine. I get that they’re not on the same page, but it would be nice if pelosi could show even a fraction of the character a bunch of millennial influencers have shown.
Pelosi is fine with the corruption she’s just annoyed when they make it so obvious.

As far as I know pelosi hasn’t budged on passing the reconciliation bill before they do the bi partisan one. That’s about as much as you can get from her l. That and then not backing down when he tries to strip it.

Manchin’s ultimate leverage is being able to switch parties and change control of the Senate. How hard can you push him until he does that and how would that change things?
I doubt he would do that. If he plans on running again he’s drawing dead in a republican primary. If he’s not, dudes been a democrat for like 30 years. I doubt he would change parties at the end of his career.
Honestly how much of a difference would it really make assuming he still approves all the same judges and stuff. If he isn’t going to pass a big reconciliation bill he might as well be a Republican.

I’m assuming he votes with Republicans on almost all nominations after switching unless another Republican also crosses the aisle. How much more harm could Republicans cause by chairing all Senate committees?

If he switched McConnell would become the majority leader and thus control the floor schedule. There would be no more votes on nominations so we wouldn’t have to worry about how he would vote.

Yes, I know that the bottleneck would probably just move to Feinstein’s corpse or one of the clowns from Delaware or New Hampshire or something, but at least we wouldn’t be needing to 100% count on the votes from an Arizona lunatic and an asshole from a Trump+40 state.
Honestly I doubt they could stand up to the heat the way Manchin can in a Trump +40 state. I think with 53+ seats we would at least get voting rights.
I know what you mean but the Dems are masters of getting dominated by the Overton window. If they had a couple more seats, I bet there would be a few more Dems that suddenly got in touch with their conservative side because it would give them power to be The Swing Vote.
