It is subjective, but this is where sustained critical acclaim steps in and helps us separate the wheat from the chaff. Though it’s not infallible it’s a lot better than my 3 year olds crayon scribblings are better than any Picasso.
The question of whether “best” song is completely subjective is an interesting one.
Obviously Stayin’ Alive is better than say the Bee Gees’ 30th best song. So you can say there’s at least some objectivity to it - just based on whatever innate musical instincts most humans have. A hit is a hit.
But arguing Back in Black vs. Shook Me All Night Long as AC/DC’s best song, or some other contenders - is pretty much 100% subjective imo.
Now if you think Big Balls is their best song - that’s kinda in the ketchup on a hot dog territory for me. Yes you have a right to your tastes - but you’re an outlier as a human being on this one.
