Fargo is the only one I like btw.
Sometimes you just gotta unclench and go with the flow.
(Sage advice from Queer Eye guys)
I think Def Leppard wins best and most iconic for Photograph.
The main riff is famous but the song is otherwise forgettable imo
If I’m picking 3 MJ songs to listen to right now, I’m going DSTYGE, Rock with You, Off the Wall
Rem - Radio Free Europe gets no love?
I suspect this will happen more and more to almost every classic rock song at some point - like South Park with Come Sail Away. They’re just so cheesy and fun.
Say what you will about the dinosaur rock era - but it holds up a lot better than Blink 182 and Maroon 5.
And yet you’ve seen them all
Nah. That broken chord guitar work underneath the vocal melody on Bringin’ on the Heartbreak is too good.
You’re such a secret. Misty-eyed and shady, lady how you hold the key.
MJ pre Thriller almost feels like a different artist (different physical human as well).
I do like Bringin’ On The Heartbreak - especially the part where it gets slow and then goes YEAAAHHHHH
But to my Photograph has always been an instant classic.
Which is a good thing?!?
Never mind that if we’re talking about their clear best song, not the most iconic, it would almost certainly be from their experimental album Slang
I think it was actually one album before that where he became this different artist, though it’s easy to think it’s Thriller because it was bigger than Off the Wall. The transformation of MJ into the artist we now remember him as was because Off the Wall and Thriller were the first albums he worked with legendary music producer Quincy Jones. Without Quincy, Michael’s career would not have been anything close to what it turned into.
I’ve seen only a few:
Raising Arizona - ok but didn’t like it as much as some and never thought about watching it twice
Lebowski - couldn’t finish it. Lost me at the ear-biting.
Miller’s Crossing - not bad
Barton Fink - didn’t last 5 minutes
I just don’t like their style at all. Same with Wes Anderson - except I did finish the great whatever hotel one and wasn’t in pain. I liked the imagery.
I remember my friend just going on and on and on about Rushmore and I didn’t last 30 minutes.
Maybe it’s that thing where your friend builds it up so much and annoys you and just ruins the movie for you. Same thing happened for me with Pulp Fiction which I liked but didn’t blow my mind to smithereens like my friend who wouldn’t shut up about it.
Btw Quentin Tarrantino - best - True Romance
John Mellencamp - Jack & Diane
I think Pink Houses is better (and there are another dozen as well) and probably more iconic now.
The Who - Baba O’Riley (commonly called Teenage Wasteland)
Won’t Get Fooled Again
That’s fair. I actually only love them for their two perfect film adaptations of No Country for Old Men and True Grit. Everything else is an acquired taste. Lewboski has grown on me a lot though.
I got Hurt So Good as most iconic for John whatever his last name is now.
I like I Need a Lover that Won’t Drive Me Crayyyzah best though. Also the other one from that era - Aint Even Done with the Night.
No way! Pink Houses?
Hmm. Okay, maybe.
But a dozen others that are better and more iconic?
