LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

Ugly naked guy

One thing I was wondering about today. Anyone have any idea what this ratio is:

traffic on unstuck/traffic on 2+2

No idea. Maybe like 1:3?

I wish. Their Alexa rank is #23,650. Ours is #2,066,636. Even with their greatly diminished traffic they’re still a fairly major site with over half a million registered accounts. We have 428.

Ah, ZZ and oreo, just the bros I was looking for.

1:3 seemed way too high to me also. What are your best guesses?

Imagine having an audience that large on the most important medium of the 21st century and squandering it all away because you couldn’t imagine anything other than being a micro-niche publisher of physical books.

I really have no idea. If Alexa rank scales linearly with traffic it’d be 1:100, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t.

I bet if you were just counting the non-poker traffic we’d be at least in the ballpark of 1:3.

Adding some value there Erick son of Erick

Big enough to appear on this map (at the very bottom right).

While 2+2 is certainly way larger than Unstuck, Alexa is a useless datum. Alexa ranks sites by tracking people who have the Alexa toolbar installed. I have to imagine something approaching 0% of users here have that.

you gotta be fucking kidding me

Quality is better than quantity. UP!

Cracks me up every time!

I guess a gambling event did occur.

Can someone give me a simplified cliffs of the stuff that Mason didn’t do that he should have or the stupid stuff that he did which cost him what sounds like an order of magnitude of profit. I probably have a Mason-level understanding of how make money from websites on the interwebs.

Affiliate marketing

Do you think you could dumb that down a bit more? I just started reading the wikipedia page on Affiliate Marketing and I noped out after a couple of paragraphs.

Tbh I don’t know what it all entails…

The main loss in affiliates was the rakeback as he could have been getting at the time possible 90% of the biggest and the multi table players all at that time.

The sums alone in that would have been astronomical.

Durrr and Jman alone lol.

2/2 had almost all the multitable regs at the time.

He had a platform where every single aspect of the poker and online gambling industry was within easy reach. It would have been trivially easy for him to enter into literally any related market. He could have had his own poker site if he wanted.

To give an example of missed opportunity, I was playing online poker for over a year before I even found 2+2. I had bought books (none of his), and was actively searching for any information I could possibly find on the internet. But that whole side of his company was so badly handled that the most popular poker forum and best source of information about the game was hard to find and even harder to penetrate. Even today the front page of his publishing site looks like it was designed by a 12 year old in 1997, and it probably was.
