LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

No TV

You can get away with sash windows if it’s warm enough not to need heating.

I set my central heating to go on when the temperature drops below 68F. Otherwise it’s off.

We have an HVAC that comes on when it gets above 72 in the summer. And since we have a southeast-facing condo apartment, it’s ALWAYS above 72 in the summer.

Our electric bills are super high this time of year, but we make up for it in the winter because we never have to turn the heat on.

Checked weather before bed last night and 0 percent chance of rain so I left my skylights open. Woke up this morning to rain.

Random safety moment.

A friend of a friend died yesterday fixing his car. The jack slipped while he was under the car. Don’t fuck around with home jacks and being under your car. I do this all the time. No more. He was 43. Totally insane!

I was going to make a weather joke, but not after that grim post.

Wow, that sucks. It seems like you used to hear more stories like that back in the day. I guess maybe since so few people work on their own cars now the incidences have gone way down. Even jackstands and chocks can feel sketchy, to the point where I used to own a set of ramps for changing my oil.

He used good jacks too. Similar to the kind I use. Apparently the jack actually failed and didn’t slip. Who thinks a jack is going to fail! Has to be one in a million.

Thanks. I only knew him a little. I feel really bad for his wife and kids though.

Through May: Generally have the AC off, when it gets to 83 or 84, I set to 80. Just prior to sleeping set to 77. Elite AC unit and insulation makes it feel like 68-70 feels at other peoples’ houses.

Guessing I will just set to 80 basically all day through June-Aug.

This article is perfect for the meme of the dude sweating over the two buttons. The number one network with anti-vaxxers must have had a real struggle over this one. It is a legitimate concern.

Guess I should have added that I have ceiling fans in every bedroom which are basically always running, and high ceilings in the main room which traps most of the heat up there, but with those and the shade my house gets most of the day 77 seems to work ok. Even one or two degrees below that makes it noticeably cooler inside to the point of it being somewhat uncomfortable unless it is August dog days outside, and the power bill reflects it too.

72-75 ish here. I would find 77 hellishly hot. But I am super hot, so the ladies tell me.

Damn sorry to hear about this man :frowning:. This happened to a guy in my company when I was stationed in Italy, same type of situation. Our battalion CO was livid and hyper-anal from then on about the light wheel mechanics always using jack stands when doing that kind of maintenance and even gave one guy an article 15 for not using them. I’ve always kept a pair around since then.
