LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

I’d move Oregon and Washington to ‘Meh’; Minnesota and Michigan to ‘No’.

Are there any homebrewers here? I just had a batch come out not-quite-right but don’t know enough to properly troubleshoot.

Gonna be weird and say I’ve been absolutely doomscrolling here and twitter for the past few days and I do not know how I’m going to get through the next 3+ weeks. Not looking good.

That’s a hilariously bad take. The “left” has been the only people ever concerned with such things and they are the only ones concerned about it now.

Also a hilariously bad take. The Olympic National Park/Forest is a top contender for most beautiful place in the US.

Maybe it depends on which route you take, but I drive through WV twice a year and it’s always a highlight of the trip, especially since the next leg of the journey is the depressing wasteland that is Pennsylvania. One of these days I’m going to spend a day in Wheeling and just dick around for a while or maybe go hiking.

I had no idea WV was like that. I was picturing coal mines and Fentanyl stockpiles.

“Nobel laureate & etc.” is pretty baller. Gibbs almost singlehandedly invented the field of chemical thermodynamics.

No Pacific Northwest? This is blasphemy.

I’m guessing that NC getting a “No” and SC getting a “Meh” has to be due to your interest in the distinctive regional BBQ styles between these two states.

If you’re a white person and in the DMV area, a BBQ-based road trip through the Carolinas is time well spent. I would not travel all the way from Australia to visit either of these states.

Ah, the Big Bird strapped to the top of the station wagon thing evolved from one of my favorites! So mild by today’s standards and it was just 8 short years ago that the legend of Seamus Rmoney was dug up.

This spawned the likes of the Dogs Against Romney twitter account, Mitt is Mean placards and dog bandannas etc. Good stuff.

I just figured SC has Charleston, which by all accounts is quite pretty and a good food city, and if you’ve already been to one Carolina, do you really need to bother with both?

Upon further review, the Great Smoky Mountains/Blue Ridge Parkway area of NC looks quite nice.

That’s why I left room for one more. Remember we’re only at 9. If you want to add WA and call it good, that’s fine by me.

They laughed at me in SMP when I mentioned I didn’t know who Gibbs was. AP Chem was as far as I ever got, and I don’t remember them teaching us about any Gibbs.

My god, this is all wrong, that is touristy bullshit. You don’t go to the big city in South Carolina for food, you travel through small, out-of-the-way places in North and South Carolina and sample the very distinctive types of authentic regional BBQ they offer so that you can have a snobby but informed take on whether SC-style BBQ is better than NC-style.

…they should have taught you this in AP Chem? Or maybe you forgot it? Gibbs free energy is sort of fundamental to all of chemistry.

America’s a place where people think nothing of driving 4 hours to see a friend but baulk at a 6 hour flight to Hawaii.
