My point is simply that yours is a different analysis than trying to investigate what specifically about the Obama presidency might have been lacking and lead us here. That it was inevitably so because he was the first black president doesn’t really affect that analysis imo.
Obama didn’t have the luxury of not caring about the reaction to the smallest outburst on his part. There are elections for other black men to try to win.
I don’t think that effect is that huge. The angry black man stereotype is pervasive enough.
And whatever effect it may have had in this regard could be offset by actually accomplishing more good while in office.
I don’t think you have even a small appreciation of the effects of systemic racism in the US.
I think this will be my last post on this topic because it’s pissing me off. My wife is black and just about every week she complains about “liberal allies” who say the magic words “systemic racism” and then deny it with every other word that comes out of their mouths.
Um, what I’m saying is that he could have done more to try to combat the effects of systemic racism if he was willing to sacrifice his personal image a little bit.

You have to remember, nobody had any doubts that we were going to roll Trump in 2016. HRC was supposed to keep the ball moving in the same very slow but right direction ish direction we’d been drifting in since Obama took office.
They thought that the status quo was a lot more popular than it was.
I think as guys who have collectively played a lot of poker we can all have sympathy for a guy who had a really bad session where every hand just went as badly as it possibly could. That’s probably what it felt like from Obama’s side for 8 years. Just shitty break after shitty break until it was over.
Obviously if he could go back in time and do it all over again he’d take the road not traveled on day 1. It’s really hard to overstate just how bad this got how fast. Things have gotten MUCH worse than they were when Obama left office out here in the real world.

At this point the only thing that can stop the bloodthirsty conservatives and excuse-laden, mealy-mouthed liberals is an international coalition forming to punish America for it’s brazen lawlessness. Sanction our military companies into the ground. Indict our leaders. Obama could have easily closed Guantanamo or not expanded the drone program. He just didn’t want to.
