I’m saying that if you run for president of the united states you can’t spend your presidency acting out of fear of how people are going to perceive you. I don’t think “Obama was just afraid of pissing off the racists” is a point in his column any more than “Mayor Pete was just afraid of pissing off moderates” is a point is his column. When you are president, the things you fight for are what you should be judged by.
If Obama thinks that a public option or closing gitmo is the right thing to do and chooses not to fight for those things once elected, then he shouldn’t have fucking run for office.
