But without the text book scam we wouldn’t have Amazon

And…? Don’t leave us hanging.

So our new soccer team in SD forfeited a game last week when a player on the opposing team made a racial slur against one of our players

Today, they did it again, when someone on the opposing team made a homophobic comment against our star player, Collin Martin, who is gay.

they were winning 3-1. It was the final game of the season.

yeah, that didn’t last long. Apparently their coach said “It’s just a part of the game”.

SD was going to make the playoffs with the win, too.

Racism bad. Homophobia good, i guess

This seems exploitable.

Yeah I was going to say it’s an easy way to win the league for the Trump XI.

Say what?

Tertiary education is a complete scam in general. It’s like 10% education, 60% gatekeeping and 30% networking. Raise to 90% networking for Ivy League schools.

Can the refs give people cards for using racial or homophobic slurs?

In my youth refs could issue red cards for “foul or abusive language.” Not certain, but I don’t believe that’s changed.

They can, but not if they don’t hear it.

The two games I butchered the worst as a ref both involved racism. The first one a guy started spitting on everyone and I had to send him off. He said the guy called him a racist word. I didn’t hear it. The accused team was a bunch of privileged, racist pricks from my hometown. That combined with the guy’s out-of-control reaction make it certain that he was telling the truth. I wish I would have pretended I heard and sent off the first guy too, but I didn’t think I could. The rest of the game was violent enough that I probably should have abandoned it.

The second incident speaks so poorly of me I’m not sure I’m comfortable sharing it, but, shrug, I know who I was back then and it wasn’t great.

I was 16 and reffing a U-13 game and gave the only African-American kid a yellow card. He got super pissed off almost to the point of crying. I turned my back and heard the kid called me a racist. While I wasn’t a deplorable, I had some residual libertarian/reverse racism bullshit ideas in my head and thought it was the most offensive thing ever to be called a racist.

Of course, he was correct, I was a racist. I gave him a second yellow card for dissent–perhaps a hedge since on some level I didn’t think I could pure send him off for foul and abusive language.

In the end, he didn’t say it. It was his teammate. And I should not have made a big deal out of it anyways, so much poison in my head. So I ruined a kid’s life and he was completely innocent.

After the game, his mother came up and explained the whole situation to me. There’s so much going on with this I can’t type it all out, but needless to say she explained everything about her upbringing philosophy to me. I am crying right now thinking about why she had to do this, why she had to explain herself to a white authority figure, why she owed me an explanation when I had just committed an injustice against her child.

Because I altered the game by issuing him the cards, I couldn’t take them back and had to report them. But I called the League Commissioner right after the game to beg them not to suspend him for a match and wrote a lengthy report detailing my error. I think they made him sit out a game. Because of course they did.

I was just devastated after the game. I still am. I saw him around campus when he was a high school freshman and I remember apologizing to him, but it doesn’t matter. The shit I put his entire family through that day because of my own shittiness will haunt me until death.

It’s true and one of the reasons I love Europe

Is that that you get ice with your coke and not coke with your ice

I usually don’t have ice in a drink at all unless it’s TapsAff weather :sunglasses:

Ugh, yes. I always ask for light ice or no ice anymore.

It only happens here in Chinese restaurant, there notorious for it here, when you ask for no ice there faces melt.

You shouldn’t need to go to Europe to figure out the restaurant ice scam.

For those of you who somehow still manage to be oblivious, beverages from the soda fountain are already cold.
