LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

I’ve been in bed 12 hours. Rough night. Drank way too much coffee yesterday and kept waking up. Had weird dream that Trump was broke or something.

It wasn’t a dream.

You need more sleep, it’s not safe for you to be awake too long nowadays until after November

I like Her Strut ok. I have a friend I met at work who had a pronounced strut that went away when she got married. Thought I saw it at a party last year, so marriage might be starting to deteriorate.

Great tune, but this is my favorite:

Why did this become the insipid boomer music thread?

The real question is which is the GOAT coming of age, trying to cop a finger-bang in the back seat of your Camaro song - Night Moves - or Jack and Diane?

The truth is that the only truly subversive punk rocker was GG Allin.

Seems like other forces may have played a part.

The attractive single women in my building are shacking up currently. And seemingly pretty happy about it. I’m observing this out the front windows while listening to insipid boomer music.

Subversion is lame. I see the standard as not being deplorable. Fact is, however, that many folk musicians were more rebellious than many punk/metal musicians. Hell, metal musicians, on average, have worse politics than pop stars.

They can have Lemmy or Alice Cooper, I’ll take Michael Stipe or David Byrne.

The day Bob Dylan throws his feces at people and cuts himself on stage, let me know.

Well, Dylan is a light weight deplorable.

While I have serious issues with Dylan, Leonard Cohen is much better than some rando punk assholes.

Sure, I guess he could have cut himself or pooped on people, but then he’d just be a great musician with some serious mental health issues.

BTW, I have known and maintained that the Ramones are just shallow shitheads from when I was 16 y/o. So my elitism is not something, contrary to what some appear to believe, that just sprung up when I got a law degree after spending 12 years in university.

Apparently my mother has started asking my little brother about qAnon adjacent stuff. She’ll say “isn’t it a good thing that they’re going after pedophiles?” after getting any pushback. Really not looking forward to the next few months.

36 days.

Mine is in a holding pattern regarding revelations about Donald Trump. Hasn’t posted anything in a week. Probably waiting for marching orders from FOX before posting again.

Disagree pretty strongly on this one. HIp hop grabbed the torch years ago but there were plenty of subversive punk rock groups.

Your vantage point has changed if you truly believe this hot take.

I do agree with what I think you’re trying to say. GG did take a certain element of the style to the max. Forget his barbaric concert antics; him going on Jerry Springer and defending people actually getting raped at his shows as some sort of poetic brutalism was maximum shark jumpage.
