I feel you. I built two of my previous computers, I know its pretty easy. I’m indecisive though and it’d probably take me over a month researching and picking the parts. Just kinda wanna get it over with and I’d rather pay a lil extra to not have the hassle especially since I’m not gonna try to get a super PC. Just something to maybe play some somewhat decent games on moderate settings.
People still buy desktops?
Can you run GTO sims on laptops?
Check over here and watch for a nice gaming system to pop up:
Trying to do any serious computer work on a laptop is madness. I’ve been running dual monitors since forever, they keep getting bigger, and I can’t imagine them ever being too big. Also, the older I get the more my wrists and forearms demand a good, proper keyboard and mouse setup.
Get a utilitarian lapper to browse the web/etc. See if you still care about the games first. If you do, build yourself a gamer box.
Yeah I agree about the screen size of course, but laptop + $150 27" monitor is good, no?
The organisation I worked for until very recently had 4,000+ users on this setup, some running advanced analytics and cubes etc.
I’ve moved my entire architecture firm over to mobile workstations a few years ago.
Genius considering everybody is working from home now.
You can run two thunderbolts off a macbook pro. But my old 30" that I used for poker is perfect for web development.
My previous job let me take my two thunderbolts home and I know damn well no one cared if I kept them. But I just couldn’t do it. Didn’t want to be a thief (other than minor office supplies of course).
No. I currently have a 22" and 32". I could go bigger on each. Games, CAD, 3D modeling, graphics, web development, audio & video production, etc. all benefit massively from having lots of screen real estate.
And again, a real keyboard and mouse are absolutely essential for me. It’s not just preference, I’m in pain using a laptop for any length of time. If you’re going to have an external monitor, keyboard and mouse, why bother with the laptop to begin with? It’s cheaper to just build a dektop system.
If you’re never going to use the portability of the laptop, I agree.
Otherwise get an external keyboard and mouse, again like my last workplace.
Yeah, portability is not really a selling point for me. If I’m going to be doing computer stuff I will do it in my dedicated computering spot. I already spend way too much of my time with a screen in front of my face. I don’t need to be dragging one around with me everywhere else too.
Don’t even get me started on phones.
Yeah I basically hate laptops.
I’ve only ever seen one picture of you but I can see the resemblance
I’ve gone with a desktop for most of my computer usage and a Chromebook for laptop/tablet uses. Only problem has been streaming video from my desktop to my Chromebook.
I’m not sure if it’s a good fit for you, @StimAbuser, but my most recent desktop is a Dell OptiPlex. I used to build all my boxes, but am pretty much over that now and don’t do any gaming that the Intel onboard graphics can’t handle.
I got the small form factor version which I keep on my desk behind my monitors. It’s quiet and trouble free. Dell is good about keeping the systems updated to cover the constant flow of Intel security advisories. If you do want to pop in more memory or hard drive/SSD, it’s easy with a well-thought-out tool-less setup.
Drawbacks to going with an OptiPlex… If you get the SFF version you’ll give up some options for upgrades (you could only use half-height video cards, for example). And I’d guess that it’s more expensive for a given spec list than some other options. It was worth it for me though, since I just wanted to fire and forget, and we are pretty much a Dell shop at work and we’ve had good luck with them.
Anyway, just thought I’d throw that out there for you to put in the mix.
So I’m reviewing FB Marketplace for anyone selling chess sets, and for some reason this item is in the scroll:
So I look up the lyrics in order to rage laugh at what I assume will be some old timey racism:
{Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please stay away
Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please do what I say}
Since I was just a little boy
I liked to roam the hills
And to hear wild stories about the Indians
Was my biggest thrill
I’d shout and yell and holler like heck
I wore moccasins on my feet
And I’d make believe I was under a teepee
Every time I went to sleep
My hair was jet black and I was twenty-one
Lots of pretty girls around
But the paleface maidens didn’t thrill me none
Around my Cochise County hometown
{Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please stay away
Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please do what I say}
One day I went to the reservation
And there by a shallow creek
Was a beautiful Indian a-fetchin’ water
And I just had to speak
She smiled at me then quickly left
But the next day she returned
And it wasn’t very long till I told her how
The love in my heart burned
{Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please stay away
Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please do what I say}
I told my daddy I’d found a girl
Who meant the world to me
And tomorrow I’d ask the Indian chief
For the hand of Nova Lee
Dad’s trembling lips spoke softly
As he told me of my life
Twas then he said I could never take
This maiden for my wife
SPOKEN:
Son, the white man and Indians were fighting when you were born
And a brave called Yellow Sun scalped my little boy
So I stole you to get even for what he’d done
Though you’re a full-blooded Indian, son
I love you as much as my own little feller that’s dead
And, son, Nova Lee is your sister
And that’s why I’ve always said
SINGING:
{Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please stay away
Son, don’t go near the Indians
Please do what I say}
That must be a chain, I’m sure I drive by a Lion’s Den porn megastore when I drive through Ohio to the east coast.
