LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

I’d keep it. It’s best to be informed of any lathe purchases beforehand.

Ammon Bundy, principled conservative. Writers really threw us a curveball there!

Seems like he’s much more accurately described as libertarian than conservative.

Agreed.

I tend to classify most libertarians as a subset of conservatives, but there are some clear inaccuracies in doing that. I think about it this way because it largely reflects how they vote. Also, if you asked them if they were liberal or conservative, they woud mostly pick the latter.

Principled libertarian - the rarest of all breeds.

dude hates the feds more than he hates the libs.

Meh, he doesn’t like the cops because they shot his dad. Let’s not pretend this family of grifters has any deep-seated principles.

Honestly doubt he would even know how to use a compass

Libertarian-types are far right conservatives full stop.

Don’t buy into that Koch bro propaganda that they are some kinda 3rd way.

I know lots of people irl who call themselves libertarian and are 100% anti-police state, anti-drug war, anti-organized religion, pro-LGBT+ equality, pro-choice, etc and not conservatives. That’s small “l” libertarian and not the Libertarian Party.

A lot of anti-authoritarians who don’t like either the donkeys or elephants don’t even know there’s such a thing as libertarian socialism.

This assertion that this stuff somehow doesn’t make a peep a conservative is literally historical post WW2 libertarian-type propaganda.

Libertarian-types are conservatives who like hookers and blow. That’s basically it.

No doubt. Tbh, I didn’t either before I started hiking in the Everglades, but the basics are super easy to learn, like figuring out which way is north and heading that direction.

I just remember the libertarian types who used to hang out in 22 and they had very Republican-adjacent takes.

Yeah, adjacent to the right of mainstream Elephants. Example: complete rejection of public accommodation laws.

I evaluate the liberal-conservative axis primarily in terms of economic issues. The worst thing the left has done is to treat abortion as the most important litmus test, giving cover to a neoliberal plague within the Democratic Party.

That’s not my experience and that includes living with people in cooperatively owned and run housing and work with people who are ostensibly “libertarian” and talk about Hayek and Friedman, but live like Kropotkin and mostly agree with Chomsky and always with Orwell.

There’s a lot to left-libertarianism that people reject because they automatically think of leftists as authoritarian. Maybe in your experience ALL those people are talking about liberty in bad faith, but not in mine.

Which makes sense, and was what everyone did up until fairly recently.

The propaganda the libertarian-types produced that most muddied that water was the infamous and brain dead Nolan Chart. That was created in 1969. In 1971 Nolan was a founder of the LP.

The Nolan Chart or, as I call it, the World’s Smallest Piece of Political Propaganda.
