Edit: Jason Donnavan

Just before the man’s arrest, President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a short video to comply with one of his demands, saying the words: “Everyone should watch the 2005 film Earthlings.”

LOL very stable genius with off-limit topic:

Love Anthony’s stand-up.

Dammit I’m starting to feel what it’s like to be old in small doses.

I played badminton last night and woke up in the morning with some knee problems. Not much in the way of pain. Feel some tightness and my range of motion has been limited. Can walk fine, though with slight feeling of instability. Flexing my leg at the knee while lying prone feels risky after a certain point.

It’s probably from overuse and I wonder if the neoprene sleeve ended up having a negative impact rather than positive by masking any pain during play. Not sure if I should just wait for it to go away or see a physical therapist.

Figure some of you have experience with knee issues and might know what to do.

My knee hurt for a bit and I cured it. The cure was “don’t do anything to make it worse for 5 years”.

I get these pains getting older, but generally I’m reasonably happy that I can eventually do whatever behavior modification needed to eventually make it go away - so far.

Oh is that all? I cured my knees hurting too… all I had to do was lose 60 pounds of fat and put on 20 pounds of muscle. (Do not get the wrong impression am still fat)

Being very overweight is not good for this kind of thing. Probably puts you 20 or 30 years ahead of schedule on aches and pains.

My knee is always a bit sore from badminton due to the lunging involved but this is a bit more than what I’m used to. Never had it bad enough to limit my range of motion.

I’m just not sure what point is the one where I turn to a physical therapist to help me.

What specifically hurts? The kneecap? The side? Something interior?

Any swelling?

The medial side and below the patella.

I can’t see any. I assume that knee swelling isn’t insidious and its existence would be pretty obvious.

Posterior Cruciate Ligament LDO

The pain in the side of the knee is probably more concerning in my experience. I am not a doctor or physio but usually patella soreness is just some inflammation and can be managed pretty easily. Medial pain is more risky and could be some kind of tear.

Before getting too worried about it I would say step one for most knee pain is rest. Ice it if you can. And start with trying to loosen up and stretch the stuff around the knee - quads, hamstrings, calves, even hip flexors and glutes. Apart from trauma, which would usually occur with a distinct snap or pop, knee pain is often the result of something else being out of whack. Its really common for example for quad and hip flexor immobility to make your patella sore.

You’re a little overweight, right?

No more badminton until you lose 30lbs! By the time you lose the weight, your knee will have healed and you won’t re-injure as easily. Do some other exercise like walking up stairs, but stop immediately if it hurts.

PM for details on how to pay for this therapy.

Note: IANAD. In fact I’m legitimately terrible at diagnosing stuff.

Knee pain anecdote: I’ve got pretty consistent knee pain in both knees, worse in the right knee. It’s most often just soreness ‘inside’ the knee but occasionally feels like weakness or soreness around the sides. After heavy activity it can get pretty fucking sore. An MRI a few years ago and a consult with a surgeon revealed that the cartilage in my knee is wearing down where my patella rubs against stuff? Which is apparently irreversible. I wear neoprene sleeves which seem to help but I’m not sure what else I can do.

Thanks man

Makes sense to me.

Thankfully, I’m not that overweight.

Stairs is easy enough as I have to walk up 8 flights of steps to get to my flat since there’s no elevator. Wonder if using them today aggravated my knee. Dammit.

Is something like that genetic? My dad had issues with his knee. Had bone chips removed, fluid drained and things like that before 50.
