LC Thread 2020: What the PUNK? ROCK.

I “know” mostly only musical acts from Oklahoma.

I mean, you start out young and it’s extremely compelling. The sheer radicalism, the rejection of everything around you, the yearning to be free etc. Experience makes it annoying because after a while, you know how the story ends. On The Road was boring, Kerouac wound up a bitter reactionary drunkard. So many of those communes people started in the '60s and '70s ended in either acrimonious failure or got pretty fast and loose with the free love, and they mostly ended up voting Reagan. The techno-utopians all read Rand, the Cybernetic Cultural Research Unit largely went techno-fascist and Mark Land ended up groaning into the mic doing The Worm on stage on MDMA (I guess at least we got Mark Fisher out of it).

This is less annoying than most things in that vein, because, well, not to edgelord it up, but it’s kind of funny. Kid decides to rough it and live off the land etc, ends up slowly poisoning himself to death because he didn’t cure his meat properly or something? Maybe civilisation’s not so bad, eh? I don’t know anyone who ever died from eating poison berries lol, that’s shit from a fairy tale or whatever. Idiot.

Edit: Yeah, throw Homefree Kai in there, too, come to think of it.

Krakauer thinks it was nuts that were slowly poisoning him iirc.

You can’t get much more subversive in 20th century America than burning your cash. Im always going to respect that. How the story ended up or how Kerouac ended for that matter doesn’t matter to me at all. It’s more about the story in the moment.

Sure, I get that. But like he could’ve given it to someone (I know, it’s symbolic, but still).

I thought it was “wild potatoes”?

Edit: guess it was the seeds of the Eskimo potato plant.

A comedy account I follow retweeted this:

Now I couldn’t care less about whatever all that is, but check out the third emoji/whatever in her handle. Saw that and was like wtf. If you hover, the alt-text identifies it as “No one under eighteen symbol” and I’ve got to say:

are you SURE you want to go with this

Are there awards for bad graphic design? And if so, how do I go about nominating something for one? I mean the VHS industry had this figured out thirty-five years ago:

That's How You Do It, Silly Thot

Dammit TIL that DudePerfect is loaded with Jesus freaks.

Did more digging and saw a RIP Billy Graham tweet. Shit, do I have to hate them now?

I suppose they’re as much BLM as Christian conservatives can be given their recent tweets. sigh

Jenn Takahashi runs the Best of Nextdoor troll account on Twitter. Her trolling campaign is probably saving lives for real.

From that tweet/story. Nice solar array there on Boston. It’s a little hairy there installing all the way up to the edges though and most places in CA won’t let you do that for fire dept access.

One of my friends was the lead singer in a Ramones cover band in the 90’s. He was tall and skinny and looked exactly like Joey when he put the wig on. They were awesome.

It is now summer. The current thread title is ambiguous and I’m not sure what happened to the long standing convention of seasonal titles that stretches back almost an entire year. We are turning and turning in the widening gyre.

DL Hughley collapsed onstage in Nashville. He spent the night in the hospital but apparently he’s ok.

Also live comedy is back I guess?

D.L. was performing at Zanies Comedy Club and a sold out crowd was enjoying his jokes

Indoor crowds and laughter. Tennessee 2020.

Enjoying might be an exaggeration. It’s D. L. Hughley I doubt there was much beyond muffled laughter.

I passed a little protest with three people. One person was wearing a Joe Biden shirt and another person had a sign that said “all black lives matter”.

I would guess the second person described was protesting the first.

:man_shrugging:

My thought was a galaxy brained centrist fusion of “all lives matter” and “Black lives matter”.

All black lives matter is actually an LGBQT group.
