Looking like Conservative majority is the likely outcome with a hung Parliament second most likely, right?

Goddamn, what’s worse is that the UK is still better off than a lot of other European countries. The PM of the CR was part of the State Security Police during the days of Czechoslovakia. He is charged with embezzling hundreds of million of Euros worth of subsidies from the EU via fraud. Once charges were recommended, he replaced the Minister of Justice with one of his allies (akin to Trump hiring William Barr to be his AG) to protect him. Despite all of this, his political party, ANO (a party nearly identical to Italy’s Five Star Movement) has twice the support of the 2nd most popular party (a left-wing party called the Czech Pirate Party) and is likely to maintain a minority government due to his connections with the Christian Social Democrats (a disjointed centrist party) and the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (basically a rebranding of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia).

So what happens to politics in Britain if the tories win here? It seems like if Brexit happens their brand dies almost immediately right?

I mean you can’t convincingly lie to someone about what has already happened to them. They’ll be super super pissed about it.

So why is Corbyn still in politics? It seems like he’s incredibly toxic with voters. The British left doesn’t have any better options really?

I mean if they’ve landed their shots move the target so the next barrage won’t land as well I guess. Corbyn seems to be quite unpopular objectively. If you can go up against Boris Johnson and have it be close you might be the wrong candidate.

That’s my impression as well. If you can’t capitalize on the utter clown show the Tories and Brexit have been for the past years you just might be a Hillary level candidate.

Why in gods name wouldn’t be be hard anti-brexit?

I should stop posting in this thread… I don’t really know anything about UK politics so I’m really not entitled to an opinion. It just seems like Boris Johnson is an almost Trumpian clown and it’s looking like it’s going to be close, and after HRC I tend to blame that on whoever is running against the clown.

The problem was Tony Blair and the Centrists as You well know, they are everywhere in modern politics…

This is and always has been a billionaire media steal of out narrative and political thinking for the last +20 years.

Considering the facts of just how much new money from the east of Europe and Asia is flowing into Britain and its financial institutions did y’all think (alough I know you know this) that Britain would give that up because those countries are currupt and stealing the energy cash.

It’s these Torys that are the British empire in that their the worst of it, merchants of death who don’t care for their grandmother’s or granddaughters, it’s a horrible world.

Read up on the Eton crowd and what happens their in the education of Empire makers, its a dog eat dog World made to weed out the weak before Oxford who then go on to challenge any and all to get to the top of society’s supposedly top jobs and institutions.

So before they reach the editors job or the CCHQ jobs they are battle hardened and ready to eat their grandfather’s dog.

This is not a moral world or a normal world but Infact a primal world of the jungle.

Britain is and will probably always be a island of pirates who allow the worst of the Oligarchy to reside and clean their image here.

I mean who have we ever not allowed to be educated here in our top schools?

Corbyn is an old school lefty and there is an old school lefty case for Brexit. Namely that EU rules significantly restrict the powers of a Socialist government. You can’t borrow more than X you can’t subsidise your industries let alone nationalise them. Your monetary policy is largely set by Germany and to a lesser extent France (if you’re a euro country). And the EU has historically fucked over any truly left wing government that has come to power because it is essentially an institution of capital. The 4 freedoms greatly benefit owners of capital to the detriment of small l labour.

Essentially Brexit sucks because you lose all the benefits of membership and all the down sides of membership are replaced by something even worse ie a hard right wing government in thrall to capital selling the country off piece by piece. If you were coming out to a left wing government looking out for workers then the pros and cons start to balance out a bit.

OK but objectively Brexit is terrible economics, so why would any sane person be for it?

If you’re in a customs union (and a services union) then the economic hit isn’t all that bad. Enough that it might be worth it to be able to implent truly left wing policies.
