Havenât a clue why the DUP would suddenly back the sort of deals discussed in the papers today, but then I havenât a clue why the DUP does most things.
Yep, those both make sense. Weâll see. Wonder when Iâll stop falling for the idea that politicians might sometimes mean what they say!
From the Guardian live stream. Seems the papers are saying the DUP are either sticking to their principles or asking for even more money.
There are multiple reports that the DUP is being offered a significant cash deal alongside the Brexit pact.
The Financial Times is reporting sources as saying the DUP were being offered âbillions not millionsâ as a sweetener.
The Irish Times also noted the offer of âa multimillion-euro package of investment funded by the EU, London and Dublin.â They are reporting indications that âpolitical agreement had been reached on the main points and precise details were being worked through.â
ITVâs Robert Peston said Downing Street sources were downbeat about a deal, but the issue seems to be what is on the table is not going to get the support of the DUP.

Enjoyed the shouting man.
Also, should probably wait for the details, but it seems the cunning plan for the deal might be for NI to stay in the customs union, but just sign something saying âno it isnât.â Also for there to be a border between Britain and all of Ireland but to sign something saying âno there isnât.â Genius!
In todayâs episode of âYou Donât Fucking Sayâ

I canât decide what would be the bigger indictment of UK politics - if they did pass this deal, which could have been agreed literally years ago if not their repeated insistence that something like this was completely unacceptable, or if they didnât somehow get this over the line when everyone is now happy to say black is white, up is down etc. just to get the signature.
We do not understand how the government might have come to negotiate a withdrawal agreement in terms that breach amendments tabled by its own European Research Group.
Unless and until Section 55 is repealed by the UK Parliament it is simply not open, as a matter of law, for the United Kingdom to enter into such an agreement.
If the proposed withdrawal agreement is unlawful, the government will be obliged to request an extension as mandated by the Benn Act and in accordance with undertakings given to the Court of Session in Vince, Maugham, Cherry v Boris Johnson.
The latest cunning plan is revealed.
Rees-Mogg said MPs would then vote on a motion, either to back the deal, or to approve no deal. He explained:
The debate that follows will be a motion to either approve a deal or to approve a no-deal exit.
That debate on one or other of those motions would run for up to 90 minutes under the existing rules of this House.
3+ years and the best they can do is the kind of fast one I try on my 18 month old. âEither you sit nicely for a story or you go straight to bed.â I find it doesnât always work, but good luck to them.
I havenât been following Brexit for months now. Saw something about a new deal. Is this a good thing?
Meet the new deal. Worse than the old deal.
How so? The initial deal was essentially soft Brexit iirc. I guess this one is harder but not super-hard?
Probably a good/ok deal for Ireland and the rest of the EU. I think the pro-Brexiteers in the UK (apart from the DUP) will be happy with it (even though itâs almost the same deal they rejected a few months ago). Probably not so good for Remainers hoping for a second referendum.
Seems that it puts off the tough stuff for another 14 months with options for extensions.
So basically Brexit will be carrying on still. This means that I have yet to lose my bet.
