Why does England care so much about holding on to N. Ireland, especially after already shedding most (all?) of her former empire?
If itās not money I suppose the Tories could try more devolution ie letting Scotland set their own taxes, and become like the Isle Of Man or somewhere. Not sure that would satisfy many, though.
Itāll be amusing if the party that has Unionist in its title oversees the end of he UK as we know itā¦

Youāre asking the wrong question imo. Unionists have been a small majority of the NI population since before the Troubles began (though shrinking). If not for them then all of Ireland would probably have had some form of home rule over a century ago and gone from there.
(Not that this is any excuse for the violence Britain has caused there, obviously.)

Itās a proxy for the empire in a way which your adopted countryās flag isnāt because (I speculate) Franceās left and right unite in their nationalism and thus itās a symbol of unityā¦whereas our dear UJ just grates on the left (well, most of us).
Asking us to show pride in our flag or leave is another way of saying become a racist nationalist like me or fuck off.

I can see it as a proxy for the country and what that supposedly stands for. But she had already demanded pride for the country. You canāt then ask for pride in a poxy flag on its own!
I think you can if it symbolises something more than the current state of the country, such as history.
Even she canāt come out and say āBe proud of everything we did for the natives under our Empireā, even though thatās what she means.
