Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore

Almost exactly what was going around Twitter

Of course. Everything bad that happens in the world is because an underqualified DEI hire screwed up something that a naturally superior straight white male would have handled with ease.

Oh yeah. Canā€™t wait to see the blue check replies to anything our Secretary of Transportation tweets about thisā€¦

I will remind people for the 1000th time that ignoring Twitter idiocy is really really easy.

Like, itā€™s not even fun to hate read peopleā€™s predictably stupid responses to this. Just let them swim in their own cesspool.

The Kerch bridge:

  1. A lot more pillars.
  2. None of the Ukrainian hits have been at any of the key pillars holding up the longest unsupported span.
  3. Having two separate sections of bridge could feasibly have resulted in just one of them collapsing if one of the key pillars were hit by a container ship, but at least one of them would be absolutely fucked.

Asked a few people. Bridges are designed to withstand boat collision but the size and force here would likely exceed those design parameters.

Iā€™d assume that there is a reasonably strong guideline for what strength of collision the pillar would be able to handle and not collapse, but this would go far beyond that and if the pillar collapses then the bridge just goes.

Like if a large sailboat hits the pillar it probably just wrecks the boat, but I donā€™t think you can build anything out of concrete or otherwise that is going to be stronger than a ship of this size.

Yeahhhhh, I just spent 40 minutes reading thia shit. Wtf is wrong with me?

I donā€™t know, I get a little dopamine hit from the reminder that even though I do and think dumb things every day, there are people immeasurably dumber than me. Itā€™s a nice feeling.

itā€™s a completely different design as well. and kerch area is also seismically active, which dictated how it could be constructed

Looks like they lost power close to the bridge and when they got it back they tried to stop the boat and ended up drifting into the bridge.

Seems like they could be lined up better to prevent a perfect storm of losing power give you the best shot at clearing the bridgeā€¦

There should be a serious investigation into the horrifying tragedy of Marjorie Taylor Greene in Georgia.

Is this an intentional attack or an accident?

Praying for the victims, survivors, and families

Before MTG thought of it, everyone was planning on not investigating it at all. We should be grateful for her bold leadership.

Yes an intentional attack on a bridge in the middle of the night in which the ship sent out a distress call/warning.
