lol Rogan’s main audience is young men
Work with several 20 something dumbshit bros, can confirm.
The answer to this is actually yes, but with a giant “if”. It is not correct to presume absolutism about rights, and then present this as wisdom. This implicit notion that nothing is actually knowable and nothing can be every done about things is a misdirection used by powerful people to avoid having any restrictions imposed on them. Don’t fall for it.
The “Big If” that goes along with stuff like “should we censor music” is that we shouldn’t consider it unless there is a clear and compelling evidence that there is enough damage caused by the uncensored art that outweighs the good of free expression. Those cases are rare, and the history of Actually Bad Censorship is a story of people suppressing expression that they personally don’t like with no such compelling evidence. We don’t really need to be absolutists about rights. We just need to be Saganists - claims that rights should be suppressed are extraordinary claims, so they require extraordinary evidence. It’s a high bar that is rarely cleared, but it does exist.
Ok. This is a giant tangent, but the term the poster used, “pop culture degradation” actually put this thought in my mind, because I have actually been thinking about how much I can/should be trying to censor my kids exposure to pop culture, especially given I enjoy and listen to this music myself.
My parents didn’t let me put on Metallica, Green Day, and Nirvana around them, but they never stopped me from listening on my own. But it seems the pop culture music of today, which I appreciate as art, but also glorifies some pretty serious antisocial behavior (which maybe isn’t great for children and teenagers be emerged in?), is a whole new ball game. But maybe this is just angry old man yelling at clouds and the more things change the more they remain the same.
Who dat?
No offense, but I legit can’t tell if this is satire or not.
What examples do you have? I grew up with heavy metal and gangsta rap in its most provocative, stuff these days feels tame by comparison but I’m not really plugged into what kids these days are into.
Tipper Gore, most famous for the PMRC whose biggest accomplishment was the “Hey kids, this CD is fucking rad!” stickers
Sadly that story is just going to make him more popular.
Having heard a lot of that context over the years it’s not going to help Joe.
Lol apparently he n-bombed in SEVENTY EPISODES.

They don’t love him for his comedy though
Is anybody surprised this guy uses the N word?
Lol’d at the very last line …
Rogan has previously attracted controversy for suggesting that the young and healthy should not get vaccinated.
“It’s a word where only one group of people is allowed to use it, they can use in so many different ways. But it’s not my word to use, I’m well aware of that now.”
Black people can say it. But he can’t. That’s racist!!!
