I mean the ACLU and the dictionary disagree with your definition. Probably the most famous and influential censorship apparatus in American culture is a private trade organization, the MPAA. Tipper tried to set up a similar censorship apparatus for music in the eighties and thankfully largely failed.
that sounds like you are effectively censoring facebook/google. so letās just say you are okay with censorship as long as it doesnāt impede your own podcast playlist
do you remember the 80s movie about a mental institution patients deciding to write their own ads?
No, regulating advertising firmsā business model to protect citizensā privacy and discourage predatory behavior that isnāt in the public interest isnāt censorship. Neither is enforcing antitrust laws.
same exact argument applies to Joe Rogan Inc and Spotify
Keed you are doing a truly bad job of explaining what you mean by censorship. It sounds like anything you personally donāt agree with.
Should Spotify be stopped from gobbling up podcast networks due to antitrust concerns? Investigated for itās coercive neo-payola scheme for musicians? Probably! Not sure what that has to do with anything Iām saying.
spotify collects enough data to target users into listening to jr, and probably helps rogan to accomplish this. and out of 5 hours of rogan per day thereās enough misinformation in there to make the whole enterprise not in the public interest. it fits your own test for being pressured into breaking up or shutting down, even though earlier upthread you were against such censorship
Censorship is the act of suppressing, modifying, or stifling someone elseās speech.
Again, antitrust action and consumer protection action against an aspiring monopolist like Spotify isnāt censorship. Obviously.
By that definition stopping someone from yelling bomb on a plane is censorship.
Your definition is just silly. There are endless examples of suppressing someoneās speech that isnāt censorship but any rational definition.
but that sort of pressure limits what they can say and how they use their platforms. so itās de facto censorship
You literally defined it at censorship one post up.
Yelling bomb on a plane is illegal! Just like defaming someone or frauding someone or stabbing someone with an ice pick. Unless there is a bomb on the plane and then itās just useful information to be relaying. So yes, suppressing libel or slander or true threats obviously isnāt censorship. Add that to the definition.
I did not do that? The hell are you talking about?
Crazy People :)
Nah, youāre wrong here. He is a straight up grifter. Listen to any of his rants where he āCriesā about the state of our country and in the same breath pivots into an ad read. He doesnāt and never has believed a single word of it.
Spotify owns the rights to publish the rogan podcast.
His audience dreams of being dumb and rich like him.
