Jeopardy! Thread (No spoilers until after the show EST)

I’ve got Brad ahead of Ken, but I realize that’s probably a minority opinion and I can see the other side of that.

But having James ahead of either is insane. And I like James and think he is hilarious.

Watched wheel of fortune for the first time in a billion years and… WTF? Where are they finding the contestants? Here’s what’s left:

What letter do you think the guy guessed? How many chances would I have to give you before you guessed that the guy said “B”?

WTF?

I have to admit I blanked for like 30s looking at it cold here, because my brain really wanted that first word to be superman and couldn’t get past it lol. I assume contestants have to pretty much call a letter as soon as the spin lands?

i feel like wheel rejects contestants who appear too smart in the auditions

Well, the same guy that guessed B also ran out of time on a $10k guess. He just couldn’t spit out a letter. Never heard of that happening before, but I don’t watch very often, or ever.

You get about 3 seconds but that can tick away very quickly if you don’t know what you want to call by the time the wheel stops.

I still haven’t figured this out in like 5 minutes. Also B sounds dumb but I could see how he saw the word “superb” in there.

On the plus side, the woman who won was really good, and pulled off a tough bonus round solve to win a car. I didn’t get this one (it’s a phrase):

D A _ _ L E / _ N
_ _ _ T _ _ R A _ _ _

(Guessed letters: RSTLN E MCD A)

Stared at that for way too long trying to stick two consonants in there.

Had you mentioned that that “no more vowels” warning had not been said yet, this would have been significantly easier.

Took me several minutes, so I definitely would have lost there.

They’re stretching the limits of “phrase” quite a bit with that one.

Another one where my mind latches onto something (dabble in witchcraft, even though I can see after a second that it doesn’t fit), and it makes it hard to see anything else (or at least nothing that’s phonetically similar).

As far as stretching the phrase category, I feel like we’re a good 25 years past when that meant it had to be a common phrase, now it’s just “these words could plausibly be said together in a sentence”. Kinda like how “person” in a final puzzle might be an actual proper name 2% of the time, the other 98% it’s gonna be some super vague thing like “jazz drummer”.

There’s really no skill at the end of WoF. It’s mostly blind guessing at this point. The puzzles are so obscure and involving phrases that had never been used until the puzzle was created.
