For some reason my answer was “skating” so I would have looked extra dumb getting it wrong.
wat
“The specific skill that gave this sport its name” is pretty unambiguously asking for “this sport”
I have determined that this is neither a trick question nor bullshit, but it took me about 5 minutes of wikipedia research on the history of figure skating to fully understand the question and what it was asking.
Until today, I had no idea why figure skating was called figure skating.
I think the “trick” of this question is that it sounds like one of those you can reason out if you think about it, but it’s actually closer to one of those “you either know it or you don’t” questions.
so the actual complaint is that it’s NOT a trick question

That’s my best guess. I’d say it’s just a hard question.
I just watched an episode from 1989
The final jeopardy clue was “the first leap year in the 21st century”
TWO PEOPLE GAVE AN ODD YEAR. 2001 and 2003. What the fuck
My first thought when reading the question is that maybe it about first or second row level difficulty.
When I was younger, I used to be a lot better at Jeopardy. At least so I thought. Maybe it’s just that the contestants were dumber.

Looking at some of the FJs from Trebek’s first season is wild.
A sampling:
THE OLYMPICS: Of the 5 continents symbolized by Olympic rings, the only one never to hold the Games
RIVERS: It carries more water than the longest rivers in Asia, Africa & No. America combined.
THE SOLAR SYSTEM: The only 1 of 9 planets not named for a Greek or Roman mythological figure.
WORLD GEOGRAPHY: It has more people than all the other South American countries combined.
SPACE: Lunar sea on which Apollo 11 landed.
THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Site of a November 1978 headline tragedy, it’s the only South American country with English as official language.
Each of these had at least one player miss.
The advent of the “pro” trivia players has really changed the game.
I used to think I could do pretty well. No way now. I smoke the average viewer but at my age studying that much to compete with the better players of today would be impossible.

I think “pros” have been around for a long time though. The best guys I came across in college, would mop the floor with anyone below Ken/James/Brad level.
I often wondered why more guys like that didn’t make it on TV. One reason may have been that they were universally not that telegenic.
The internet makes trivia easy now if you want to study for a show like Jeopardy. Imagine studying for the show in 1985. You’d spend 20+ hrs a week at the library.

He got a lot better towards the end
God damn the Dr Oz eps are going to be torture. I absolutely hate that dude’s voice
the Dr Oz eps
Holy fuck, seriously?
unnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnfortunately, yes
I think he made a big jump in week 3 and then added some real humor that I thought was in the style of Alex in weeks 5 and 6. I’d have no issue with him as permanent host. I’m guessing we are going to see some abortions with Oz and co.
I’m guessing we are going to see some abortions with Oz
Not literally I hope.
lol Dr. Oz
That fucking quack is gonna host Jeopardy. I really hope he’s a diversity tryout.
I may take a holiday from Jeopardy that week. It’s only a couple steps up from inviting Ted Cruz or Tucker Carlson to host.
Yeah I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be watching
ken guest hosted for like 6 weeks, right? are dr oz and katie couric gonna do 6 weeks too? gonna be rough
