Yes but Jennings was the best or easily projected to be the best. It’s not a job for him. It’s a life. He’s fully invested.
Projected to be the best? Perhaps.
At the time. No way. Buck for sure was ahead. Arguably others.
I love ken but his fatal flaw is that he’s a nerd just like the contestants. You need someone who doesn’t identify with the peons.
Scores were
32,400
18,000
17,900
The guy at 17,900 had left 100 behind on the last daily double (with many clues remaining).
Sadly no instant karma as it was a triple get. I was rooting for first to miss and 3rd left to stew over that $100 left behind. (I think he wagered 7,300 out of 7,400).
Mayim outsharked herself and ken mr magoo’d the top job just by being nice and loving trivia
how much did they actually “work together”?
The staff was also fond of her, with reports of her surprise delivery of cupcakes for the crew early in her hosting tenure leaked immediately to the Daily Mail.
imagine working on a show and getting cupcakes and immediately telling the daily mail. i think the fastest person on the trigger was mayim’s publicist and it’s not even close
Jennings struck a different note in his interviews at the time. “You’re not going to see me in the papers talking about how important it is that I ended up hosting,” he told USA Today. To CNN, he said he was “not particularly ambitious” enough to want the permanent gig.
this is how putin took power in russia btw
Am I the only one who felt compelled to double check how old she was after reading that?
Am I the only one who both watches Jeopardy and couldn’t care less about who is host? I mean, I don’t want some buffoon and I agree that Jennings is better than Bialik, but the hand wringing and hatred of her amongst fans is insane.
Counterpoint: she was the worst
I don’t know about “couldn’t care less”, but my amount of caring is prettay, prettay low.
It would take a truly dismal host to keep me from watching (like if the producers somehow decided to go with a loudmouth comedian type that kept interrupting the flow with bad jokes and only got through half the clues every round), but there is something to having a host with the right vibe and rhythm.
Watching Mayim host was like if every time you ate your favorite food, it had too much salt. You’d be like “I still like this, but it’s a bummer that it’s never quite right.”
I definitely agree that she wasn’t great and Jennings was better, but I just don’t get the vitriol people have for her. She didn’t make the show unenjoyable and I would assume she would’ve gotten better if given more opportunity.
It’s just the hatred that really bothers me. Get a life. It’s just a game show. She didn’t ruin anything, just wasn’t amazing.
All you need to know is she is a woman.
She was a bad person who was bad at her job and every show she was in. Dont complicate it. She was a worse host, but a similarly bad person to Aaron Rodgers. Hes getting a ton of similar hate for being terrible in similar ways!
Dlk, imagine the Bucks traded Giannis for James Wiseman straight up. Would you like James Wiseman?
I’m pretty sure that there’s a healthy dose of misogyny in some of the complaints. Even on this site some of the people who complain about her seem strangely obsessed with her life and anything she said or did while hosting to remind people that she wasn’t Alex.
I think a lot of it has to do with the impossible task of filling Trebek’s shoes. He perfected his role as host like no other and that spoiled the super fans of the show
His pronunciation of foreign and obscure words and phrases seemed flawless. His witty reactions to wrong answers could be anything from consoling to playfully sarcastic. He could add additional trivia at will and came off as the most educated person in the room. Smarter than his audience and contestants even, but never arrogant
To me, Jennings is on a very short list of logical replacement candidates. From an intellectual standpoint he’s already there and has nothing to prove. Everyone else is an outsider to a very elite club. The only question is, does he have the personality and as time goes on, I think he’s shown that he does. It’s not surprising to me that fans have a difficult time accepting others. Just my two cents…
She’s been vocal about stuff that some consider controversial, whereas Trebek made it a point to be private and not rock the boat outside of Jeopardy! Yes, she is female, but not everything comes down to misogyny
Is it misogyny when we say MTG is bad at her job? No, we can just recognize she sucks.
