Jeopardy! Thread (No spoilers until after the show EST)

Man, fuck Ken for making Mayim look like the good guy here.

Ken isn’t a writer, he doesn’t write the clues. And he’s not an actor, he’s a trivia contestant and host. What does this strike have to do with him? Should everyone in all industries go on sympathy strike to support wga? Give me a break

His argument is, no one should cross a picket line ever. Which is a rather ridiculous absolutist take, there are rules to picket lines and people cross them all the time without repercussions. As long as he’s not doing any writing work while hosting, there should be absolutely no issue with Ken replacing Mayim for that week.

If anything, Mayim is the one who could face problems stemming from this (I don’t think she will). SAG-AFTRA isn’t on strike and has told their members to continue working on projects in production. She’s technically breaching her contract.

I suspect every one of mayim’s interjections and fake laughs is written in a script for her, because her delivery is very unnatural. If she was replaced with an AI it would take me weeks to notice

Hells yeah.

Are Jeopardy clue writers WGA?

I’m sympathetic to the writers but I don’t think they’re going to get a good deal out of this strike FWIW.

they’ve definitely been getting screwed, particularly on residuals, but they waited too long, the industry is really in decline (we just haven’t seen it yet) and the current spew of content is completely unsustainable even at the current subsistence wages for writers.

the time to strike would have been when there was still oceans of cash flowing into streamers.

They are.

I mean unless the producers hire scabs, then Jeopardy should eventually stop too, right?

If Ken is walking across the picket line that doesn’t mean the writers are.

My understanding is they have enough game boards already written to get through the end of the season. After that, they’d have to take a break until the strike ends.

FWIW lots of “unscripted” shows still employ people in the writers guild to do editing and narration and etc. etc.

Where and why would he do anything else? He was making more yearly than almost all top actors during his run as host.

Yeah, that’s my point. Wil Wheaton’s threat is dumb.

My understanding is that after 14 games of various matchups, the top 4 the play 4 games (all of the combos of 3). The top 3 move on and then a two game final?

Given they are doing 2 games per day, that’s M-T-W of next week.

Not 100% on the above.

Not crossing a picket line is instant disqualification from Kolob according to Rmoney. Wheaton should know that.

Yes this seems to be the case.

Yeah that explains the large gap in taping. Good on the J team for giving her the time she needed and rushing the prod on the back end instead. Hopefully competing helped take her mind off the grief for at least a little bit.

Two day total is a dumb format.

The entire format is a giant variance fest. You can dominate for 3 weeks and still need some rungood to ship.

Yeah I don’t get why they decided to end on that. Up until the final 3 they went with less variance approach.

The last three they went with the old school two day point total. But the last TOC they went with the less variance, first to win 3 games is the champ. I don’t know, the only explanation I can come up with is they wanted to have a chance for a James upset.
