Is there anything Biden can do now to win over progressives?

Asking the question you wish you were asked? Quite corporatist of you. Maybe you should run for office and wonder why people don’t vote for you?

Let me understand this master plan.

130 million people voted in 2016.

Bernie had about 180,000 monthly regular donors and about 5 million total donors.

Let’s assume 100% of them throw the same temper tantrum (Err I mean have the same “strategy” for change). None of them vote.

That represents 3.5% of those who voted or about 7% of those who voted dem.

35 million more people voted in 2018 than 2014. Most are predicting even bigger turnouts in 2020.

The majority of this surge will be voting dem. Dems also get the majority of the growing non-white vote and non-theist vote

Here is what happens if Bernie supporters don’t vote. In a few key small races, their non turnout could tip the win to republicans in house races or state races.

9/10 times the strategy results in nothing but less of a desire for the DNC to give a shit about your issues.

1/10 times the nightmare scenario the presidential race is gore v bush 2.0 and you vote could have swayed the election.

You think in that 1/10 scenario the DNC will be looking to Bernie supporters for salvation?

I literally have no idea wha this means.

The research suggests that actually boycotting elections doesn’t work, but threatening to do so can force concessions. When election boycotts do work, it tends to be because it spurs post-election protests that cause change.

I would go with the idea that Bernie supporters should be resistant to pressure that they need to fall in line now for the sake of unity, but ultimately give in in November.

That was a really good read thanks. Didn’t change my mind in terms of people not voting for Biden but did provide some interesting historical context.

  1. Women didn’t vote to give themselves the right to vote, nor did Blacks. The most basic examination of this statement shows that is wildly wrong.
  2. The current incarnation of the Democratic party DOESN’T CARE WHETHER OR NOT YOU VOTE FOR THEM. THEY LEGIT DON’T CARE IF THEY LOSE. THEY ARE GOING TO DO THE SAME THING, IF YOU VOTE FOR THEM, IF YOU DON’T VOTE FOR THEM.

Your first point makes zero sense. Did I miss the part of history where suffrage was gained by a voting boycott? You do realize people voted in both those cases to get the right to vote?

Crazy person caps aside, if you honestly don’t think the DNC cares about wining you are too far round the bend to be reasoned with.

I like my idea of 5 million votes for the revolutionary communist party making the centrists rethink M4A.

Ross Perot got 20 million votes.

They arent running a candidate they usually back the Socialist party USA.

You keep strawmanning what I said. I said:

Neither side gives a fuck who your vote for. The only thing they care about your sweet sweet production.

Bumper sticker political science is fun.

You are a garbage poster. This game is fun, amirite?

Some peeps don’t realise yet that we’re in a Pandemic… Carry on.

What you’re getting at is not obvious to me. Are you claiming he had no impact?

Serious and thoughtful people can tell the difference between bad posting and posting they disagree with.

Blahblahblah, I ignored your post like you ignored mine. Great conversation guys! Full of thought and seriousness.

I’m saying you need to amass a coalition far larger than 5 million to make a dent in the DNC. Or as I’ve said before stop focusing on the presidential race. Focus local and you can make a difference.

That is a good point. I do try to shop small stores generally… though I really don’t often shop for food, just shopping for my mom now. Amazon is much worse than Wal-Mart imo, but Wal-Mart should be boycotted as well.

Ok…it’s official…I now boycott Wal-Mart. Thanks.
