Iowa Caucus Predictions... SEASON Thread

according to their releases, Pete only has 77% and Bernie only has 40%

Pete definitely jumped the shark at least a little bit, but that’s politics.

well, i only know about Pete’s campaign and that he had captains everywhere. I would be utterly shocked if Bernie didn’t, unless he completely ignored rural areas.

lol. no mention of his internal numbers, any soothing towards the process. just “i won”. fuck mayor cheat

the DNC is tainted. fuck obama, who leaked a bunch of islamophobia against Ellison so Tom Perez could get in. he should resign immediately, as should basically everyone involved. fuck the DNC for its ineptitude and corruption

Let’s see, so the last poll was cancelled at the behest of the Buttigieg campaign

Now we find out the app that botched the counting has a conflict of interest with said campaign

And Mayor Cheat declares victory before a count is in

I see

This is a naive question that I genuinely dont know the answer to - but is the actual DNC involved in this caucus, like at all? i get the sense people just type “DNC” to mean some generic boogeyman of whatever grievance they’re particularly worked up about.

Get a grip people on some of this shit. Christ.

It’s like this whole shitshow was designed specifically to create as much drama as possible on THIS FORUM. Basically, the simulation is real.

Also, I woke this morning and tried to explain the clusterfuck and my 9 year old said, “Why don’t they set up something so that each person just votes for the person they want and they count them?”

Wtf guys. Do we need to send UN teams to help you handle your fledging democratic processes?

Yeah, pretty much not. States run their own elections.

There’s pretty obviously nothing conspiratorial going on here, this is just a large helping of garden variety incompetence. If it’s true that they allowed people to realign away from viable candidates, I’m not sure what they’re going to do about it though. Everything else just needs time, but that is not really fixable and I don’t see any way you can redo precincts. They might be able to establish that it wouldn’t have affected the results, or they might just shrug and certify the results.

The clusterfuck of stupidity with the new rules and late to arrive semifunctional app is standard and predictable. My biggest concern is the relatively low turnout.

They had volunteers running like 1200 individual events. I’m sure at least 50-100 places allowed some people to move from viable candidates, which screwed up some of the numbers.

Here’s a prescient Atlantic article from a day before the caucus.

It’s fine, we just saw with Bolivia that when some people allege the counting shows irregularities then the US approved response is an immediate military coup. Whoever is in charge of Iowa just needs to flee one step ahead of the tanks and then all will be well.

I wouldn’t think it’s that many, the new rules were pretty clear. I mean, I knew what they were. I can’t imagine 100 precinct leaders screwed it up, but hey, maybe.

The IDP have announced that results will be out today, so perhaps the reports about viable-candidate realignments were in error, or limited in scope. I have to think this is the end of either caucuses in Iowa, or Iowa’s status as first primary, or both. It’s an embarrassment to the DNC.

Couldn’t they have just made a Google apps form with like 1200 permitted logins based on email name verification, and when each precinct had a count the supervisor could input the data into the form and submit it? There, saved you $300k and delivered a functional system that would take 14 days to implement and train people on. Magic of technology.

Like I’m sure many people here I work in software development. The implications about how this app was procured, specced, designed etc. don’t surprise me in the slightest. It’s an absolute horror show out there.

that’s a republican ass tie

at that point you might as well go full bow tie

p.s. I’m guessing he only is not a republican because he can’t afford a nice ass overcoat, hence the puffy coat. Note how he holds it like it’s not his, like it’s just temporarily in his hands whilst his child or one-of-his-best-friends-who-is totally-a-bernie-supporter is in the bathroom.

I posted this upthread but people apparently missed it, those images were fake news. That app was a 2016 GOP Utah caucus app, it was not used in the Iowa caucus. If you go up and click the linked tweet you’ll discover that the author deleted it.

That pic is bad, but the issue is that the app (meaning the app and installation and submission process) did not perform. That seems verified.
