Universal Single Payer (M4A) will also be vastly superior to current Medicare. It’s a false equivalency to compare it to a system that currently only covers the portion of the population that requires the greatest healthcare spend and doesn’t have the price control power it would under universal coverage.
You can’t have a for profit health care system that is also pro-patient wellbeing. Period. Yes it’s that simple. Those two goals are polar opposites from each other.
Question for the eDem contingent: who do you think “they” would prefer as president, Bernie or Trump?
If it’s Bernie vs. Trump, for whom do you think Michael Bloomberg is going to vote?
There is no plan to give medicare to everyone and let people keep their insurance. That is not what the public option is. The public option is making people pay into basically insurance.
Everyone with good insurance and money still keep their insurance and the public option will be incredibly expensive nobody who needs it can afford. Thus those worse off than you suffer greatly.
Because you can’t plead down cancer? My god just vote for fucking Trump and save us the trouble.
OK, but you’re forgetting the important point that some browns may also be better off.
Jman, also worth noting that Universal Single Payer (M4A) will cause the US Healthcare system to cost $1 Trillion less per year than the current system does. We are talking the entire population of the US saving roughly $3,000 per person per year.
That’s the thing though–he won’t just ignore it. He’ll do enough to pacify the large group of people with superficial concern using PeteSpeak. “This detention policy is over. Now it’s time to move on as a country and reshape our Democracy.” Ending the program is the first and absolutely easiest step. The hard parts are reconnecting the families, compensating them, gathering the evidence, and sending Nazis to prison. Those assholes are going to fight tooth and nail at every single step of the process. Only a fighter is crazy enough to take that on.
I have no problem with massively increasing taxes (mostly on the wealthy but if you want mine to go up too fine) so that people in your situation have a heavily subsidized public option tied to income that doesn’t look at all like the plan you are describing. But, again, running on a platform of taking the insurance away from people who like their insurance is not a winner.
No one is taking your insurance away. They’re giving you something better while saving the US $1 Trillion per year.
Hit me with that WAAF belt fam. I survived Trump but knowing people supposedly as progressive as Jman still think like this. Its GG
Dude no one likes their insurance vs. paying $0 for deductibles, co pays, premiums, out of pocket expenses, etc. What are you even talking about.
I know it’s crazy but hear me out. People could get the treatment they need and not have to fear going broke. It’s going to cost a few fat cats their 9th yacht but fuck em.
So I lost track of all the permutations Warren went through but I thought she ended on just such a plan. Only Bernie is running on pure M4A.
Right, it’s going to be a horrific battle now that we know nothing matters and shit can get tied up in court for entire election cycles. If you had to pick the person pure enough to spend significant resources on it, it would have to be an almost insane person w.r.t. to how much fight they have in them to do the right thing. I’m looking in the crystal ball here and squinting really god damn hard but still can’t quite make out the face of my man Pete.
“So how about you have the same exact health care but with no deductibles or copays?”
“No, I like my health care.”
“You seem confused. You’ll have the same quality of care but literally no out of pocket cost, ever.”
“But I like my health care, GOPete 2020!”
If you count all of that as taxes, Canadians pay less on average than Americans in taxes.
That taxes will “massively go up” is a massive lie.
I wish people that hold Jmans view could experience being chronically ill for a year or two. Not because I wish that hell on anyone but because maybe that would make them change their attitude. Insurance in its current form is god awful. I literally spend the equivalent of a part-time jobs hours dealing with denials, approvals, bills, etc. Add on the fact that insurance is tied to employment, which makes absolutely no fucking sense, and being sick in America really becomes unpleasant.
Also, M4A and current Medicare are not the same thing. Also also, when your job no longer pays for healthcare guess what your union can fight for? More fucking money in you pocket. Jesus christ dude.
The positive spin is maybe people have just decided they are fine with any of the dems and don’t see much of a difference between any of them and Trump.
I sort of get the low turnout. 2008 and 2016 each had at least 1 first time candidate polling in the top 2 nationally. I think it’s harder to get excited for someone you’ve already had a chance to vote for.
No shes pretty clear she wants to get to M4A within 2 years cuz she knows the plan is complete shit. She just did as a compromise on being attacked by GOPete and knowing M4A likely wasn’t going to pass.
But she clearly knows the plan is complete shit and will be rigged by the health insurance companies pretty quickly.
