Sure, it’s an island after all
Up until the 90’s this was could be a general rule if you listened or watched English TV and were quite ignorant of Scottish culture/cultures.
Scots people generally have no problem owning who we are, good or bad which makes us as a whole honest people and are generally some of the most down to earth people you’d ever meet.
It’s no surprise that major Hollywood stars like to retire here and enjoy the tranquility of our countryside and peace from their everyday life’s.
And its no surprise either that every American I’ve ever met wanted to be Scottish more than American or is that too an outlandish statement because its been my experience when visiting, even the customs officer asked us oot for a drink lol.
The bellagio waitresses picked us up and took us to the Ghost Bar in MGM all for free and it wasn’t because of our looks that’s for sure.
They actually are tbh, even Kane seems humble tbh and even after the hampden game where we drew 2/2 the’ve always been respectful towards us Scots in interviews etc and are a far sight removed from the 1996 team & before.
Still
Insert 10,000 words why we can never want them to win though
I’m young enough to have zero memories of Southgate as a player but I’m rooting for him.
England are mostly a team of young players and that’s why I couldn’t quite put them on the france/Portugal tier pre tournament. It was hard to know what to get out of Mount, Saka, Foden, Rice, Philips and so many others in their first international tournament.
Neville/Southgate are also two of the nicest people you’d meet and I don’t mind giving them praise for what the’ve done for football as a whole since retirement, there great lads and Southgate is one to admire for the way he’s conducting the English team as a whole and is bringing a shinning light upon the idiots which usually breakthrough.
He deserves all the praise Infact and I know this is hard to say for me as a SNP fan but it’s true to say Garath Southgate is Infact a true English gentleman.
And his kindness has certainly showed through to the football commentators giving us a far better package than previous tournaments and not so cringing towards the other 3 nations while on TV.
This has been my favourite Euros so far and I wish both teams the best of Luck on Sunday and both teams will deserve the win if they get it.
To all the England fans here, may the you get your wish on Sunday and enjoy the celebrations after a difficult +12 months.
@sumey @SwankyWilder @pyatnitski @StrontiumDog @Jalfrezi best of luck
All-in-All your a great bunch of lads and I wish you all the best & sorry If I missed anyone, good luck.

On behalf of all posters here we thank you for your continued support of the English National team!
I’ve actually got a tear in my eye atm as I know just how much it means being a fan of your national team and a football fan in general, us Scots had a glimpses of it, but in all honesty we will never experience what you guys will on Sunday.
It’s absolutely massive and I expect to see you all posting clips/photos/whatever as long as you post something to let us know how it feels to be Euro champs if it happens, don’t hold back is what I’m saying, give it to me hard.
As a Canadian, that first sentence is still foreign to me.
Still think we make this world cup which will be the first in my lifetime.

It’s strange times for England fans. I think many of us also have trouble comprehending a likeable side that might have a chance. I’m even considering going to one of the ‘English’ pubs in Paris for it, though hopefully that thought will pass.

It’s a great experience, I’ve enjoyed it much more because of Hampden being used and seeing it in action, driving past etc, it brings a whole new life into existence and just makes us Scots happy as we do love football even if our wives say they don’t
You should, if it looks like it’s not for you, then I’m sure they’ll be a place to view it near by just incase.

With 2026 being in North America I’d love to go to wherever Canada play. Shame Montreal just dropped as a host city, that would be my destination of choice.
I love it, as I get to speak to some fans when taking them over to the stadium and seeing them party in George Sq was fun too afterwards mingling with us and absolutely loving it.
It’s memories you’ll never forget and I wasn’t even at a game and is a far sight removed from club football it’s like a whole different earth or something.
Wasn’t born yet though. Gold cup win is my only positive memory.
Got to admit even if we win on Sunday the whole “coming home” thing should be reserved for the World Cup - got to beat the South Americans for it to really count imo.
You could very easily win a world cup without playing a South American team, never mind the 2 good ones though.
I dont see Argentina or Brazil as credible contenders next year.
Spain and England should both improve with their best players being teenagers.
The reason I didn’t love France this year was I knew they would basically run their 2018 lineup again but it clearly wasn’t their best chance to win.
I should have said “a competition with the South Americans in it” really. The Euros is like half a World Cup.
I feel like a lot of people claim that the Euros are harder than the WC because there are no weak teams. Even the worst Euro team is competent. In the WC you get trash teams outside of Europe/SA all the time.
It actually doesn’t mean much to me personally. I was a fervent England fan before all the horribles started taking over and since then I enjoy tournaments but if they lose on Sunday it won’t be anywhere near as bad as 1990 or 1996.

The thing that cost Denmark was an inability to cross half for the last 75 minutes more than any dive. Schmeichel was phenomenal as well.
