International Soccer: POCH

It’s the kind of tackle that breaks legs

Gotta feel for the Swiss there, but I’m glad Spain is through though. :relaxed:

Some bad pens from both, but more from the Swiss.

OMG Switzerland, what in the hell were those PKs?

i am left feeling that neither really deserved to move on

Sommer did.

Yeah soccer isn’t the sport for me. I’m not even gonna argue with you bc I assume you know what you’re talking about and I definitely don’t, so you’re certainly correct… but, did the victim of the dirty play manage to fight through the intense intense pain I’m sure he was feeling to continue on in the game? Or did he have to leave? I genuinely don’t know the answer bc I turned my attention to American Ninja Warrior on another TV during the stoppage. If he left the game due to injury then I apologize for my ignorance.

That’s a dumb argument, no offense. In the NFL if you launch yourself at the head of a WR, it shouldn’t matter if he gets up. If you undercut a guy going for a dunk, it shouldn’t matter if they end up ok. Trying to hurt players with dangerous moves shouldn’t have the penalty predicated on how injured the other guy actually is.

I broke my shin and tore all my ankle ligaments on a similar play. It is super dangerous and is a clear red card.

It’s not an argument. I literally admitted you were certainly correct. I’m just wondering if the dude in this instance was faking or not. Sounds like he was faking.

So, from my experience a lot of stuff isn’t faking it. Some certainly are. But I’ve been stepped on by cleats dozens or hundreds of times. It really hurts for a few seconds! Modern shoes provide zero protection. Getting kicked really hurts for a bit, then it certainly fades.

A pro player will have their feet and legs littered with bruises. Some obviously also make a meal of these kicks.

It may seem dumb, but it’s similar in the NHL. Players usually receive longer suspensions when the recipients end up seriously hurt.

The NHL is by far the dumbest league for how they handle punishment though, that’s a huge can of worms for me personally.

The stricter rules are also so that players such as Messi can be admired for far longer in the game than say Maradona

I also don’t know why it’s mentally like this, but I played Hockey and Soccer growing up. In Hockey, you’re taught to basically always expect to get hit. You’re always bracing yourself. In soccer it’s almost the opposite and stuff just seems to hurt more when you don’t expect contact.

I used to feel the way you did, but then I realized the NHL policy makes sense if you choose to view a penalty-induced injury as more akin to a “civil” rather than “criminal” occurrence.

Consequently, if your selfish, dangerous boarding penalty causes another player to miss at least a month of action, then you and your team should lose more of your services than if the boarding penalty only stunned the opponent.

Hoping for a good game here. Rooting for Belgium as I Like Lukaku but pretty much neutral.

Rooting for Belgium tbh, but if Italy reach the final I’m on a curry, if Belgium reach the final I owe a Curry

As I bet on Belgium to win it all before the tournament started, I am obviously rooting for them. They are also the last nation with German as an official language left.
Go Lukaku!

For Americans complaining about “faking” injuries, it’s like getting hit by a baseball. It obviously hurts and it’s ok to act like it, but most of the time the victim is fine.

Good analogy, thanks.
