This is a great first step but it’s just that, nothing more. Until we see some actual backbone out of the leadership that amounts to something I would say to tread cautiously with expectations here. As others have said all Pelosi really did is formally name what has already been going on.
Now my hope is that means some expedient action on some of this stuff. My hope is that means the full force of the party’s power and every tool at their disposal. But I’m in the I need to see it to believe it camp after how bad it’s been for so long.
They’re going right back to the Mueller Report playbook: release a wildly misleading document then scream that they’re proven innocent. I don’t think it will work this time.
Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, and I won’t get fooled again.
But ya, Dems aren’t going to fall for the redaction bs again. And they need to impeach Barr while they’re at it. Nixon’s AG did time. Barr needs to as well.
Yeah, it’s this. The republicans are in a weird spot. You know damn well 90% of the republicans in congress want him gone. I figured they would turn on him the moment his approval ratings put him into the ‘toxic’ category, which I’d estimate as below 30%. They’ve never gotten there. I’m not sure if this will push him down in to that territory, or if they’re just going to say “fuck it” and flip anyways. Their only other options is to shamelessly act like everything is fine, and you can tell by all the resignations that they are getting exhausted with that.
If only they supported gun control, then maybe they could vote how they really feel without fear of being shot by some crazy guy in a red hat.
Their best shot at a face-saving way out of this might be to invite Trump to a lot of sumptuous dinners and hope that he has a heart attack and dies in office. Then, they can spin some sort of conspiracy theory about how Democrats may have somehow assassinated him via poison to engage the MAGA crowd, since they have no chance of winning national elections without the strong support of die-hard Trumpers.
Republicans getting rid of Trump on what Trump voters perceive as trumped-up charges would hurt Republicans in elections badly. I think you’d see tens of senators primaried if that happened (it won’t happen). The only way Trump gets convicted is if his support among Republican voters craters. Period.
So my big takeaway from this is that there are a ton of establishment Dems of whom Pelosi is one, who do not under any circumstances want to talk about money. They don’t want to talk about money because they themselves are busily stuffing their faces. They hate Trump not because he’s got NPD and is running the country off a cliff, but because he’s being way too obvious about stuffing his face… and they do not want any public attention paid to how politicians get rich in this country.
Her husband is a VC and she’s filthy rich. To say that she’s too rich to be corrupt is pretty lol, I’d argue that she’s too rich not to be corrupt honestly. I’d say there’s very little chance she doesn’t have some pretty major conflicts of interest, they are just significantly more subtle than what Trump is up to on any given day.
their/they’re is hard for whoever wrote this transcript I see.
If the transcript is correct (which of course we can not believe) it’s just more trump being a moron than anything nefarious. They better have more than this.
