Impeachment Watch: Happening Status: It's

Let me just focus on this part. 75% of his range, and I’m not saying this for the sweet sweet likes, is that he has no idea what impeachment really is. He probably thinks the Supreme Court can intervene and stop impeachment if the Dow hits 28,000. In that context it’s hard to say what he wants. Even if he does understand how it works – that the GOP poltroons in the Senate will let him get away with dismembering puppies on the White House lawn – it will still be a massive ego blow to become only the third President to be impeached. He will join the elite club of worst President in history and the other guy who poked about an intern with a cigar on the oval office desk. He cannot stand to be humiliated, this is as close to justice as it will get. It’s risky, there could be backlash, but it could also inspire yet more people who had given up.

Let me just cite the frontrunner? for the Democratic nom

Dems were riled up, until the end when it was soul-crushing to watch the FBI refuse to investigate and Collins and Flake roll over.

So you think the Dem riling ended with the hearings? The mid-terms had tremendous tourn-out, rivaling a presidential election year, with more seats flipped than expected, and you’re saying the Dem base was soul-crushed? What do you think the numbers would have been without a hearing? You think there would have been higher Dem turnout if they chose to ignore Dr. Ford? You think failure to block Kav actually hurt Dem turn-out? You think women, who were directly responsible for flipping seats in the south, would have turned out more if the Dems had ignored Dr. Ford?

Dems are already pretty insanely fired up about Trump. Kavanaugh may or may not have galvanized a bunch of low-info Rs. It’s hard to say who got fired up more.

No it isn’t. Dem turn-out was much higher than normal, while R turnout was only slightly higher (I think). Trump’s floor and ceiling don’t move much. It’s amazing that you think the Kav hearings moved the needle for Rs but not Ds. And it’s the same vis a vis impeachment. Who is going to vote for Trump in 2020 because of impeachment hearings who wasn’t already going to? Do you think that number is higher than the number of Dems who will be inspired to get off their asses because the Dems decide to take a stand? Yet you don’t think failure to impeach suppresses Dem turn-out?

I know everyone at my gym was talking about it and I saw people clustered watching it on TV multiple times. Maybe the Dems came out ahead but it wasn’t by much - and it accomplished what exactly - an excuse to pack the court?

Wait… you think they decided to pack the courts (all of them) because of any tiny single little thing having to do with Kavanaugh? That’s preposterous. And how many of those gymbros voted because of the hearings? How many of those gymbros changed their vote because of those hearings? My money’s on zero.

But I just think Impeachment will feel good for the left but have the right in an absolute froth.

JFC they’ve been in a froth for 40 years. They were in a froth over a tan fucking suit, and short fucking sleeves, and Grey fucking Poupon. The Kav hearings changed nothing for R voters. Impeachment will change nothing for R voters.

Bill Clinton got impeached and it did nothing but strengthen him.

Right-wing CNN pundit BINGO!

What are some specific ways you think Impeachment will make things better for the dems in 2020?

Increased turn-out. Your turn.

Do you or do you not agree that Trump is practically begging for impeachment? If so - why do you think that is? Do you think he’s delusional about whether or not it will ultimately help him?

Super easy. His entire fucking life, from the time he was five fucking years old, has been about bluster and braggadocio. He is constitutionally incapable of showing weakness. There is literally no other option in his mind but to act like he’s not afraid.

My god, this is your argument? That super stable genius Donald Trump is so fucking smart that the Dems shouldn’t impeach because he’s obviously got something super-duper clever up his sleeve?

By the way, it may also help us take the Senate by pissing people off and increasing turnout in states with Senate races.

Yeah, like…sometimes the guy on the other end of the table is begging you to put all your chips in the middle because he genuinely believes his top pair is the nuts.

It’s a reason to pause for reflection, not to live in fear of what will happen if you move forward.

NBC News reports that Nancy Pelosi has dropped her opposition of talking about impeachment… whatever that means.

Is she dropping her opposition to interpretive dancing about impeachment though?

It depends how scandalous the dancing is.

If there is one bannable offence on this site it should be making any post along the lines of “Trump is probably doing x to accomplish y”. :grinning:

He is not angling to get impeached. He doesn’t angle. He doesn’t plan. He doesn’t strategize. He doesn’t think. He plays one dimensional chess at all times. Period.

Collins is a specific example of this. There are people declaring they’ll challenge her because of her vote on Kav. If there is no hearing there are zero challenges to her seat. If it flips it’s entirely because of the Kavanaugh hearings.

How many seats flip over an impeachment shitshow?

Wrt Does Trump want impeachment?

As Clovis says,he has no strategy he just reacts in the moment… He’s the kid we asked the Q too who always gave the most absurd answer, to get a laugh from.

Some points though.

  1. He though that the Mueller report was going to get him impeached and as usual he reacted in his natural way. (I’m fucked, I’m told this is the worst thing that can happen, where’s my Roy Cohen)

  2. His Natural way is to freak out when faced with attacks by trying to crush the opposition by using illegal means or by any means necessary that includes some sort of harsh punishment.

  3. Because he is not used to the laws regarding the WH and impeachment he continued to freak out during and after the Mueller, even after being told not to worry because the Senate has his back. (Hence why he gutted the Senate of never trumpers) And abused the presidency and also may have broken atleast 10 laws (Illegal means) then attacked the FBI + CIA + the Media fake news ramped up to 1,000,000 + The Squad ect. (Tried to punish anyone who touched the dossier + Mueller’s SC)

  4. He can’t admit to failure so him saying Impeach me is his way of saying I’ll fight it with all I’ve got. (Hence his continued paranoid behaviour) (And the Barr appointment)

  5. Its why he’s trying any means necessary to win in 2020 because he knows what it’s like to be shunned and will never 100% trust the GOP.

  6. He will burn it all down if impeachment starts, get ready for some never seen before shit + I have no doubts that he will try everything.

Yup he’s the real joker, make no mistakes.

Hence why one way or the other way I fear for the future.

Edit: I hope someone is capable of walking him out the door after he either loses or gets impeached or refuses to leave after his 2nd term when the in coming President pardons him.
Him getting a pardon in my book ain’t so bad if it can be achieved. As it stands at the moment of this post Ofcourse.

Seems clear the tide has shifted on impeachment.

I agree with what someone said earlier, the DNC hates Warren (and Sanders, imo) similar to the RNC previous relationship with Trump (now he owns the party). Which is really to say, I don’t think how the party feels about Warren is reflective of what voters will do.

Warren has a very strong message that doesn’t sound like typical politics, and I think will cut across party lines. The key to beating Trump will be a unified push from Democrats. The party can get on board with a more progressive agenda. Same as plenty of “I’m not a racist”-Republicans turned out to be more racist than they realized, plenty of moderate Dems will embrace progress,

Trump is deeply unpopular, and his 2016 election was improbable. While some racists will be more amped up than ever before in their support, I believe most of the country thinks he’s vile. I have believed since last year, when the family separations began, that his cruelty would be his undoing.

It turns out, it’s a lot slimmer margin than I thought. But still.

Impeach because it’s the right thing to do, and it’s not close anymore. Not a political decision. Run your best candidate with your most progressive message. Our government is broken but I think the people have one last shot to get it right, and will.

It’s also important to remember that Mitch McConnell doesn’t have a loyal bone in his body. If push comes to shove he’ll throw Trump under the bus. The only reason he’s backed him so hard up to now is that it’s been the most efficient way to help the people who bought him.

This is a guy who ran as a liberal Republican in his first campaign, was a huge China hawk until he met his current wife, was a huge Russia hawk until recently, and returned to being a huge China hawk under Trump. He’s flipped back and forth on so many issues over his 40 year career it’s hard to keep track of.

Mitch is looking out for Mitch. The moment when it’s politically advantageous to shank Trump is the moment Trump will find a knife in his back.

Basically the only thing standing between Trump and his political death is Fox News and it’s hold over the GOP base. If he loses that, even momentarily, he’s done.

I wish someone on the Democrats side would just sit down with the Murdochs and Mitch and find out what they want exactly. I know it has absolutely nothing to do with policy. There’s no reason to fight them, we should just buy them. They’re very obviously for sale.

I have no doubt he would enjoy the hell out of doing so, too.

Mitch is up for re-election in 2020, no chance he even whispers about impeaching Trump so close to his re-election and puts his hold on power at great peril.

2021 sure, but it’s probably too late by then…

That’s why the Murdochs have to be in on it. If Fox News turns on Donald his approval rating among Republicans will collapse.

And let’s not kid ourselves Mitch is in real political peril now. He’s insanely lucky that the Dems don’t have a decent candidate to run against him.

Eh, you assume Fox News is telling Trumpkins what to think rather than parroting what they are saying to each other on Facebook all day. My guess is Trump’s R support would collapse from mid 90s to low 80s w Fox against him. Remember Murdoch was initially adamant that Trump not be the R nominee but Trump steamrolled the field anyway. Fox doing what they can to chip away at Trump’s R support gets the chances of impeachment from 0% to a few percent, certainly no more than 10%.

Re: Mitch he is in some political peril but most people on both sides despise him as a person. His easiest path to victory by far is to ride Trump’s coattails in heavy Trump country. Little doubt that Trump could get a strong Trumpkin primary challenger against Mitch with a single tweet.

If anyone wants to bet on Trump being impeached by the end of the year (impeached, not convicted), I’d be interested in taking the other side.

PredictIt somehow jumped 30% in 1 day to 42%. Still seems unlikely. Would need full investigation and vote to start immediately.

I’ve doubled my money on this. Not sure if I should take winnings or go for broke and try to quadruple it. Full-on impeachment takes a whole lot of time and investigations, right?
