Fox basically “incepts” the ideas into them, they go on Facebook with “their” thoughts and ideas, then Fox tweaks the message to appeal to whatever direction the Facebook posts go. Right wing Facebook is just Fox News on a 24 hour delay, distilled through the broken minds of angry uncles.
I just made this point in the betting on politics thread: Even if everyone was on board, would it even be possible to impeach by the end of this year? 2020 for sure, but 2019, that seems fast.
It depends on what they’re impeaching for… If it requires hearings and an investigation, I’d be shocked if they got it done in 2019. If the whistle blower report is explosive and urgent enough on its own, then it could happen more quickly.
Right, very possible, in which case they’ll probably spend at least a few months chasing their tail trying to get to that stuff before they decide whether or not to impeach him for obstructing it.
Yeah I’m cautiously optimistic that it might be happening, but also really confused as to how this is the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Trump asking a Ukrainian official to dig up dirt on an opponent is like, pretty mild by his standards right? The fact that the whistleblower complaint was withheld from Congress seems like a bigger problem to me, but none of the statements I’ve seen this morning seem focused on that aspect.
My best guess is they have him on tape? The Nixon tapes were really the one thing that did in Nixon, he might have gotten away with everything if he wasn’t on tape doing crimes.
I think what’s most encouraging about Warren is her high popularity among the most dialed-in voters. A lot of what people know her for is the Pocahontas/DNA test test bullshit (yes, an unforced error on her part, but she’s been great since). Most people haven’t seen the Dem debates. Most people haven’t heard her stump. Most people don’t know all the stuff that has a big chunk of this very-dialed-in forum enthusiastic for her. I wasn’t all that hot on her until I’d seen those things – not to the point of preferring Trump, obv., but still – so it’s not all that unreasonable to expect that other people will feel the same way. As the primary season rolls on and she gets more exposure, we’ll see if those numbers improve. I think they will.
Oh definitely, Nixon resigned because he was obviously going to be impeached and convicted so I’m just setting 7 months as the fastest we’ll see that whole process go through.
Ahh, the '70s, simpler times when a suspicious ass 18.5 minute gap in damning tapes was explained by a secretary “inadvertently” recording over the tape in a very natural position
I have to agree that an early impeachment vote is drawing live, but having one so soon would be gross negligence on the behalf of the Dem leadership, and I mean that very specifically. Holding an early vote and punting to the Senate this year would be so incompetent that we’d be forced to wonder if they were in cahoots with Trump to get him off easy. The whole point of impeachment proceedings, and the only weapon the Dems have, is lengthy proceedings that dominate news cycles for months, hopefully dropping bombshell after bombshell, which may be in form of revealing things Trump has done or in goading Trump into committing new impeachable offenses. That’s the only path to anything resembling a victory, whether it’s peeling off vulnerable Senators to support removal from office or making Trump an albatross around their necks going into the 2020 elections.
I guess I also have to concede that there is a chance that Trump reacts so explosively that GOP Senators start to support removal faster, but that seems really remote.
Apparently there’s talk that Dems are considering impeaching him in the House, but not referring it to the Senate for a trial, and looking into whether or not that’s an option.
A thousand facepalms for Pelosi.
(Source for this was a question asked of a couple Congress members on MSNBC asking if that was something they would support, they said no it shouldn’t be a political process.)
