I’m 100% on team oreo and I think it was his prerogative do do what he did. And I’m fine with it.
I’m definitely sympathetic to the argument that the stuff he did is no longer his. Then again, we gave Vic back his $90. Nevertheless, if it was known that he could do this, then perhaps preventative measures could have been taken to preserve the site in the event that we piss off one of the architects and they decide to take their ball and go home.
However, it seems clear that such a scenario was never anticipated. That’s no longer the case. Perhaps some plan should be put in place for keeping modifications to the site with the community even if the person who makes them decides to leave.
Yeah, I created an account to test this with and once I anonymized it there was no way to log back into it because as the warning states
Are you SURE you want to anonymize this account? This will change the username and email, and reset all profile information.
So the password is different than the one I set with no way of resetting it. There is some kind of merge account feature an admin can use to attach the post history to a new account as a way to backdoor revive posters.

Did you test merging an anonymized account with a new account? If you are going to try that, send a PM from a pre-anonymized account and see if they are preserved after the anonymization and merge.
I can’t merge accounts to try it but I can confirm that PMs from jalfrezi and churchill show up as being sent by them after the rename so they’re at least preserved after anonymization.
I just want to know if they will have access to PMs if they want to come back and we try the merge kludge.
