Homeowners association Karen

Grunching Switzerland. It seems like a weird country. I haven’t been, but would love to spend some time there. I have a good friend who lived there for part of every year for a long time. It’s not right to characterize it monolithically. At the very least there’s a huge difference between the mostly (Swiss)German speaking areas and the mostly (Swiss)Italian speaking areas. My friend really loves the German areas - loves that they are so clean and orderly. I’m sure he loves the rule that you can’t flush after a certain hour.

As tempting as it is to make her life miserable it’s a bad strategy with a person like this, who will always win by devoting infinity time to petty nonsense. More importantly, it will drain your happiness / mental health.

I would continue acting like she doesn’t exist. If ordering food, I’d just put a note with the order to ignore the sign and bring it to your door.

Karen has the full support of the other Karens. You don’t win this battle.

I asked before and I don’t think it was answered, @Rugby, what the makeup of the building was. Is it mostly owner-occupants? If it is, I can assure you there’s some level of general disdain for renters. (echo danby’s post above)

The more I learn about Karen, the more she sounds like Ellen DeGeneres.

Seems like he indicated the renters are in the minority.

It’s hard to tell. If I had to guess, I would say more than half renters. Given that that the folks I see are mostly young professionals and there seems to be relatively high turnover.

I would say the HOA is mostly run by owner occupiers and definitely have disdain for us renters who are in and out.

My partner has anxiety. The first time this kicked off. Karen shouted at her through the door.

Did you explain the anxiety part to this Karen yet?

Too lazy to scroll up to look

If you’re willing to spend some money to harass her, just order her food via delivery, pay for it yourself, but make sure they call her when they arrive. If she lets them come up to her door, you win. If she goes down to get it, she’s probably going to be on life tilt. If she doesn’t go down, tip them like $20 to keep calling her over and over again.

I like this, she may not even notice it if you use the same color and font lol…

Aussies man. Your friend is your mate. But your gf is a partner.

We assumed ChrisV was gay for months over this partner stuff. And I knew he was straight when I met him. But I just figured he found himself or something.

Also Amber is pronounced Amb-uh. Whereas Lisa is pronounced Lis-er.

Can’t explain that.

Come on guys if you’re gonna harass your neighbors at least be creative. Magazine and food delivery stuff is just lame.

Gravel in the hubcaps so when Karen drives her car, she hears rattling sounds?

I think you have to know your enemy to come up with really good stuff.

If she’s a deplorable, bring in a small BLM protest to march up and down the hallway. Next week, same thing but a different group of people. Maybe a different protest too.

If she’s atheist, bring over some alternate religious group and perform a ritual to exorcise the demon that lives in her flat.

Not at all. She could go down. That’s not the point. The point is that having someone in your living place hassling you about what you can or can’t do is stressful.

Also. Your approach to this is a bit shit.

At a severe enough level, anxiety can be debilitating. It was for me as an undergrad. Never wanted to leave my dorm. Was bad enough that I skipped nearly all of my classes one semester. It was a miracle that I didn’t flunk out.

I learned some coping mechanisms over time and take CBD oil but that isn’t enough for everyone. I still have trouble with it today.

You get my reference though right?

To US ears it sounds funny to use the word mate for best bud - which literally means either your pair-bonded member of the opposite sex in the animal kingdom, or the act of intercourse.

Whereas partner is like firm handshake, sign a contract, and let’s create a business together. In the US when your partner cheats on you it means they’re skimming from the company.

I think in the US older unmarried, unengaged couples tend to just use the person’s name. Or girlfriend I guess. In the 70’s “Old Lady” was pretty popular.

As far as I know it’s normal in the English speaking world to call your non married SO your partner, but it would sound odd to Americans.

What do you call them? Girlfriend sounds ridiculous when you’re middle aged because she’s not a girl.

Cali might be behind the times then. I almost always hear bf/gf referred to as partner. Like it is so normal that I would be momentarily confused if I heard someone say partner in the business sense.
