I really need an e-book because my wife said I have way too many bookcases and am not allowed to buy anymore books without a damn good reason and she didn’t think this guy on a poker forum qualified. No offence Suzzer.

It’s coming soon! I’m done fighting with Amazon and trying to publish through other means (but it should still be available on Amazon).

Yeah I definitely want to write another book. But I need to do South America first, otherwise I have no content.

I have a trip in September, then it will be decision time over what to do about my job and whether or not to sell my condo or try to rent it out.

Me: hehehehehe

Mrs Rugby: “you’re enjoying that book, what are you laughing at”

Me: considering how to explain the world’s girthiest tree “oh, you know, there’s lots of funny parts”

Okay. I have finished Suzzer’s book.

Aka. “A land without a continent”

Aka. “that book from your weird online place that you always talk about”

It’s a little battered after sitting on, and repeatedly falling off, our couch for a few weeks

Some thoughts.

Firstly. I enjoyed the heck out of this book. Good pace, and felt I was travelling along with Suzzer.

Secondly. As I said above. It’s laugh out loud funny in a lot of places.

  • getting sunburnt
  • Suzzers mum trolling him online after he got pulled over
  • being asked if he’s a contra and employing the strategy of looking as aggressively stupid as possible

Third.

The massive tangents onto different topics. I enjoyed these. Although they all felt disconnected. I’m not sure what the audience is for south American travel plus lefty thoughts on immigration plus the history of Mayan script plus a graphic account of ethnic cleansing.

Actually, I do know that audience, it’s the 50 or so weirdos who hang out on unstuck.

The El Mazote stuff was excellent actually, thank you Suzzer for writing about it, that’s something that I’ve packed away someway and will stay with me, as it should

Fourth.

The road block stuff was very cool. I’ve had that “wait am I about to go do this completely insane thing” moment so could relate.

A few questions.

  1. How is your Spanish now?
  2. How is your plan for the South America trip?
  3. Have you ever been to the Philippines. You should come. You’d enjoy it. Go do a road trip.

5 out of 5 stars. Would recommend. And definitely inspired to go visit central America at some point. It’s now on the bucket list.

And ending mini review with a quote I’ve written down, because its some suprisingly wise ass shit.

Essentially that travel allows “empathy to move out of the realm of the abstract and into the gut”

Still waiting for the e-book.

If you want a battered physical copy in Australia I’m happy to post it on.

That’s awesome, thanks! All that feedback means a ton. Also you officially own the most dog-eared version I’ve seen so far!

I’m in Paris for a writing workshop now, where I may do a reading from the book. I’ve been trying to decide which part to read. I want to to be funny. Based on this and the other stuff, I’m leaning towards the sunburn stuff.

I’m glad you liked the mom trolling thing. I thought that was hilarious but this is the first time someone’s brought it up.

My Spanish is dum dum hospitality level. I can get by but not have any kind of interesting conversation.

The plan for South America is either to ship my car to Cartegena and start from there, or do a semi-repeat of the first trip, drive to Panama, and start from there. I need to figure all that stuff out after I get back to the states, including when the trip will happen.

No, I have not been to the Philippines, but I will come some day, possibly as part of this whole around the world car trip.

Thanks again for the writeup, that really means a lot and is super helpful.

Sure, why not? Thanks!

Also, what’s a passport bro?
