I got a $4300+ bill this morning from an echocardiogram in October. Insurance paid $0. So now I need to find at least several hours of time to make a bunch of annoying phone calls to argue with incompetent assholes. I had wayyyy more than met my deductible so this is just my insurance saying “nah we’re good, you pay this one.”

Surgery is complete, doctor said it went well. Haven’t heard anything else yet, or even if he’s awake (I’m not there, if it wasn’t obvious). Clearly still some work to do, but so far, so good.

Skyped with dad yesterday, he’s doing well. Everything is going smoothly, all tests have been good. They’re saying he should be able to go home on Saturday. He said that other than some discomfort from the incision, he feels great.

Protamine is used to emergently reverse heparin (although this one I’m less sure how it applies in cardiac surgery).

Mannitol is used mainly in some specific neuro critical care scenarios.

Epinephrine and norepinephrine are used to treat shock. Calcium chloride is used for hyperkalemia usually.

I’m guessing those are things the anesthesiologist got out for your procedure, maybe it could have been used intraop and you’d never know. Not my specialty for sure. TBF it’s probably a really good idea to have these meds on hand, used or not.

Update: called the billing office for the corporate medical company that owns both the echo place and my primary care office. Ya know, the billing department that is listed to call with any questions or issues with this bill. They said that it wasn’t covered because Cigna deemed it not medically necessary, which is their go to line for every single claim, and that it just needs to be recoded and resubmitted. Cool, can you do that for me? Nope. Need to call your dr and have their office submit it directly.

Call Dr and get told “we don’t handle any of the coding or billing, that’s the billing department”. Eventually get them to agree to ask the doctor and office manager to work on it, but they’re out of the office for a week.
