I was talking to my dad about this over lunch today. There must be a pithy phrase for this sort of bullshit but neither of us could immediately think of it. You want to have a conversation about xyz so you make up the most controversial nonsense as bait to draw the eye and lure people in. You then disavow the bait and run with your newly captured narrative.

I donāt know if thereās a term for it, but itās definitely an understandable strategy. Almost regardless of what is said about it, Republicans benefit if immigration issues are more salient/top of mind. Even if it takes absolutely outrageous and demonstrably false claims to get people talking about immigration, I think they still end up benefiting. I honestly donāt know how Dems can counter it - it seems like thereās no limit to how extreme their lies can be without actually driving a backlash.
Kamala has decided the best way to counter it is to talk about how harsh she and Joe are on the border. The response is, āwe also hate immigrantsā. Itās a losing issue for her, but strategically sheās probably right to react that way instead of focusing on how racist Trump and Vance are.

My TikTok is overrun with two videos both with trump being the soundtrack.
One is pets reacting to the dog and cat eating, the second is parents sending their boys to school only to return as a female. Both make me laugh every time. I hope trump has more good meme tiktok driving sound bites.
Iām not a campaign manager, but if I were I would try to change the subject by planting stories about how Vance steals kidneys from drunk tourists in Washington DC

Vance does not have Trumpās superpower of lying something into being. Vance acknowledges the truth/falsity of propositions. Heās retrofitting a reason for lying. I donāt think heās cutout for his post-truth role.
