I am a little torn because the federal government is actually dying to unwind the WhatsApp and Instagram acquisitions. I am fundamentally opposed to such actions taking place long after the acquisition absent any specific performance that wasn’t met.
But I will make an exception in this case. I think it would do the world a solid to remove those things from Facebook.
Honestly, I don’t think anyone running a company like FB would come off much better. I don’t care about Zuck one way or another, but I think focusing on the people running these platforms takes attention away from the fact that social media platforms like FB and Twitter are a massive net negative on society and shouldn’t be allowed to continue to exist.
And with him voting NO on the Equal Rights Act, I question not whether he is an ally for LGBTQ issues, but whether his acts as an ally are helpful are harmful. Because I mean I get the conservative premise on how someone can vote against the ERA while still considering themselves an ally. I think it’s easy to show them that’s dumb in three quick steps, but that’s different than questioning their intent.
Like, you could say him speaking against Marj is insincere virtue signaling, but it’s a big deal for lots of folks struggling with or against bigotry to see someone say those things from a powerful position in government.
but he’s not a Q anon authoritarian basketcase and seems to be fine with things called facts (well at least overall, even if he dgaf to do things like open everything up)
so he’ll lose the primary if he has one, IL loses a seat dunno what those lines are gonna be.
not long ago this thread would’ve hated him, boy has that party changed now that sounds sane
